cyberghostface: (Spider-Man)

So in addition to Peter being alive (maybe) Norman Osborn has also returned.

Miles heads over but apparently May isn't home.

The Green Goblin puts two and two together and figures out that Miles is another Spider-Man who gained his powers from him. He offers the usual spiel of pledge allegiance to him or die, which Miles refuses, and the fight is on.

Eventually...

The two team-up and Miles eventually uses his venom blast on Osborn.

Norman is taken aback by the blast and escapes. (On a related note, I really hope Bendis either somehow does away with this ability or gives Miles an enemy who's invulnerable to it -- every major battle he's been in at this points ends with him poking them with his blast. It's kind of predictable at this point.)

Wait, last time I saw Peter was acting like a total jerk, beating up Miles and stealing back his webshooters. What changed between then and now?

Also Peter may have been a little temperamental.

If this the real Peter and I feel (like 60/40) it is, he most likely quit being Spider-Man to stop Norman from attacking his family and friends. This has failed apparently.

Well, it's basically confirmed to be the real Peter as far as I'm concerned.

1) If it wasn't the real deal, they wouldn't have had the public learn of his existence. Having May learn that the boy she raised as her own was still alive only to snatch it away again would be pointlessly cruel & likely sour a lot of people on Marvel. I know I would be.
2) A mother just knows these things.

Interestingly, both facts convince me of the exact opposite. But then, I remember reading "The Return of Barry Allen".

Well, I'm glad they cleared the decks by killing off those characters, so the franchise can move forward in a creative way with new material.

Man, am I going to have to buy a scanner so I can post stuff here that doesn't make me ill?

Jesus, are the cops still being dicks and pointing guns at the Spider-men, especially Peter who not long ago was hailed as a hero, Maybe they feel like this Spider-man Imposter is insulting the memory of the spider-man they know, I don't know, what you think

They;re being pre-cautious at this point. He is supposed to be dead. Ultimate universe doesn't have many resurrections anyway, so they can't run by superhero logic.

Not to mention that, thanks to Ultimatum, the law enforcement community would have better reasons to be suspicious of superhumans than that some tabloid keeps ragging on Spider-Man.

Which hasn't happened since Ultimatum anyway, as Peter was the only hero actually trying to save people & Jameson admitted he was wrong about Spidey in the Bugle afterwards.

huh... i find this intruiging... i hope we can keep them both. I like bantery Peter. but i love adorable Miles... CAN WE HAVE IT ALL!?!?!?!

also, i hope Aunt' May's first reaction (and that of Gwen and MJ is to slap him and then hug/kiss him)

I've always thought Spider-man works so well with a partner for him to banter with. Peter and Miles as the Spider-Men just feels like such a dream team.

Oh my god Bendis is stale as hell these days. I used to swear by him, but it seems that might've been hasty.

Can we not let miles actually live as Spiderman for a while? Why are we constantly going over Peter's life and forcing Miles to the position of '90% legacy character'.

A fun thing about the Ultimate universe is that the vast majority of characters stay dead. Bringing Peter back is dull.

But what's happened has happened, hopefully if Peter sticks around, they can have some interesting partner set up? Though that wouldn't be ideal.

Yeah, the whole "90% Legacy" thing's been my main issue with the handling of Miles. They haven't let him actually *grow* into the role. Right off the bat they had him meet 616 Peter, now they they have him meet original Ultimate. It seems like they keep defining him as "not Peter", rather then Spider-Man. His book's title is Miles Morales first, Spider-Man second.

They haven't even tried to fill it by constantly reintroducing his mythos into it. It seems Bendis is thinking the same as you, but the problem is - he's the one who killed Peter, so thats a weird clash of interests.

I think All-New Ultimates is still the only place we've gotten to see Miles Morales be just Spider-Man without any sort of asterisk next to his name.

Since Parker's death Ultimate Spider-Man has become a book that's looking backwards instead of forwards, and the only non-Peter centric stuff that Bendis has done with Miles has been "new hero on the block" fare. It's disappointing since the whole thing started out as really fresh modern take on the mythos, always moving forward instead of getting bogged down in continuity and a stagnant narrative. Now though I think Bendis is too attached to his version of Peter Parker to be willing to move the book beyond him.

I really wouldn't mind seeing Miles and Peter coexist at this point, it could be interesting. What I object to is the fact that Miles Morales still gets hyped as being the progressive new Spider-Man when the book is very much about Peter Parker. It feels like a bait and switch.

I'm still not convinced this is Peter. It all seems a little too easy. To say nothing of the lack of explanation.

This has Return of Barry Allen vibes to me.

Yeah, best case scenario here is that this story is building up to finally closing the book on Peter Parker and letting the narrative move forward. It still should have moved on long ago, and I have doubts that Bendis is actually willing to let go of his version of Peter, but like I said, best case scenario.

I think it's A Peter, just not THE ultimate universe Peter. i.e I think this is acting as a prelude to some of the Spiderverse stuff coming up, and this is a Peter who's came from another very similar dimension, like SpOck is doing elsewhere ..

Well he's not going to do away with the venom sting since it's one of the things that sets him apart from Peter and compensates for not being as strong as Peter.

But it would be good to have more villains that are resistant to it. Though i should point out that the Venom Sting didn't put down Osborn for long.
