31 Days of Scans: Favourite Friendship Kara and Siobhan

I wanted to showcase one of the relationship dynamics that came out of the New 52 reboot that I really liked. Kara and Siobhan the Silver Banshee




It begins in issue 8 when Siobhan proves herself to be legitimately smarter than almost any comic book bystander, she knows who the hero is.







"That one thinks ye're beautiful," okay I'll buy that the bird thinks Kara is a good flier, but is this Hatoful boyfriend? Do Birds dig humanoid women? I don't think so... I think someone is projecting.






In issue 9 Kara learns that her friend has other magical attributes besides being a cunning linguist (I'm sorry, I had to!)







Issue 10 she helps Siobhan overcome the curse of her father and restores Siobhan's brother



Issue 11





Yeah she sets Kara up with her brother... there goes the ship.

That was pretty nice!

Huh, I had the idea that this book wasn't all that great for some reason,
I guess I was wrong if this kind of story is a regularity.
It's certainly a nice change of pace from your average "humanoid alien trapped on a world of ungrateful humans who fears and loathe them" for the sake of maximum angsting on the hero's part.

The first 6 issues she does indeed meet some crappy humans (though even then there's one guy who sacrifices himself to help her out), then after this she has a lot of cosmic adventures (though Siobhan shows up again, I need to get caught up and see what the deal is after she's no longer a Red Lantern but she did help out another nice young lady).

But the original solicits really pushed the, "she doesn't like humans, and they don't like her," angle, when I don't think that's really been accurate.

Awesome! Her power is being able to speak Kryptonian with a (bad) brogue.
