Got to be honest... not sure how to react to the idea of her possibly playing Waller in Suicide Squad.

It is one of the more depressing changes in the DCnU and another one that has no rhyme or reason - a couple that calls itself diverse and yet anyone married, over the age of 35 or not model thin? Gone. No rhyme or reason for it.

Amanda Waller's size and backstory (middle-aged mom whose kids were killed and she decided to do something about it) said volumes. She didn't look dangerous - but she was.

What is her backstory now? Have they ever revealed it?

Waller's size and age were key things that made her a badass character. She had no reason for being at the top - she didn't have a rich background, she didn't have sex appeal, she was black, and she was a woman. She had basically no weapons other than her intelligence and tenacity.

The new Waller looks like somebody who could have traded on her looks to get some favors or who could have slept her way into a promotion. It doesn't ruin the character, but it does take a little bit off the concept's fastball to give her that kind of weapon at her disposal, in my opinion.

Well, they are comic books. Lot of superheroes in those, and generally if you're a super hero, it makes sense for you not to be married and ideally you wouldn't be too much over 35 or have too much fat. Might make the job harder. But it'd certainly make sense to have the other people look like they have fairly boring lives and go to McDonald's every once in a while.

This art is really... something.

For starters I can't get over the fact that despite wishing to show us 'naked flesh' for no purpose, her chest has no volume whatsoever in the panel where she's brushing her teeth.

And then there it is the fact that all of the environments are bare. One could argue that the empty room could be a stand-in for Waller not having any attachments, but then her office doesn't have a desktop PC, nor file cabinets, nor anything whatsoever that she would need considering her administrative duties and controlling personality. And the rooms where they talk are all similarly empty. Not to mention the desk whose alignment is not parallel to the window, which make no sense whatsoever.

And then there are the faces which suffer from a weird kind of pop-in effect where for certain distances the eyes have pupils, and for others the quality of the trace clearly changes.

This is a mess.

The really jarring thing to me is her ear in the shower scene. Not only is it way too big to be anything but ridiculous-looking, but it's also much larger than every other panel we see her in. It's like it's supposed to be bigger due to our perspective, but the artist changed how far from her head the frame of reference was mid-drawing and didn't bother to fix what they already drew.

And now I can't stop staring at her ears in this, and notice that they fluctuate in size throughout, and go from under her hair to over it between panels of the same scene. So yeah, didn't think that obsessing over Waller's ears would be the last thing I did before I went to bed.

You might be going to bed now, but I just woke up and now I'm going to pass the day thinking about Waller's ears.

Oh lord this art. I also am sort of baffled by that "getting ready"
montage. The huge ass shower panel that serves no purpose, the fact she apparently doesn't wear a bra.

The cross hatching. All the random cross hatching. Oh yea - and for fun look at her assistant for the couple panels shes there. Her eyes don't line up. GAH. This feels like the 90s are creeping back.

Deadshot's face when he finds out that Captain Boomerang has joined the Squad is the greatest thing I have ever seen. I need to make an icon for that. Also, it's amazing how meta this book is.

I haven't kept up on Suicide Squad at all. Does the new Waller have a heart of stone or is is there something more to her? One of the appealing things about old Waller was that she had altruistic reasons for doing the twisted things she did and could even admit once in a while that she needed to be reeled in. Is the same true of this version or is she just as heartless as she appears in most scans here?

I like to pretend this is Amanda Waller's surviving daughter. She was about that build.

And wow, this art. I'll keep it to show to people who say comics are much better drawn these days!

OK, one, an "Evil Flash" does not belong on this kind of team. Speedster with no loyalty to the organization? Too much of a liability.

Not that Mrs. Waller never made dangerous mistakes on the old team.

Two, I am amused that someone has decided that the slender Miss Waller will have a heavier-built assistant, just to show that they aren't all supermodels here.

Why does she sleep on a mattress on the floor at a cheap apartment complex...? She can afford much better. Now I'm thinking this is some kind of a ploy on her part, unless she's just very frugal (but then it would make more sense to switch to a mortgage and... WAIT. What if Amanda Waller OWNS the apartment complex?)

Also I will always picture her as fat. I mean a fat person. Not just fat. A person who has a lot of fat.
