'In dealing with medication over the years and trying to figure out the best cocktail of pills to treat my depression, one of the most uplifting things I heard came from a physician who was listening to me worry about side effects. He said, “The whole goal of taking medication is to minimize the side effects as much as possible so you can best live a normal life.” And that goes for non-medicinal cognitive therapy, too. In other words, don’t feel like you have to accept that there are crippling, inescapable side effects to treatment– that’s giving up control.' -- Mark Waid

If Waid doesn't, someone else will so that they can get back what they feel is the "real" Daredevil. That is, to say, Miller's Daredevil.

This is great, though I have REAL issues with recommending ANY poor kids (especially ones with pre-existing emotional issues) be sent to THAT school, which has a death rate higher than a nude sky-diving school.

Nude sky-diving school has a huge drop out rate.

Yeah, but even the people who stick with it are in and out in a flash.

Do you think they have a disclaimer on their brochure saying "Your child will totally not be blown to pieces by an anti-mutant terrorist with a rocket launcher, that was a one time thing!"

That Brochure probably has an interesting map;

The Proudstar Memorial Cultural Heritage Building
The Ramsey Memorial Language Facility (we know he's back but we need the endowment)
The Rasputina Memorial Centre for the Demonic Arts
The Undergrad Class of 2006 Memorial Municipal Transportation Station (We don't actually need one, but we had a LOT of endowments... and lawsuits come to that)

Have their been any fatalities since the change in management? That new headmaster Logan fellow really seems to take student safety a lot more seriously than the previous bunch.

Hmm, maybe it's better in terms of mortality rate, but there's no way you can say safety is a concern when they put Danger Room simulations in every room, including the bathroom, and activate it at random, including when there are civilian visitors walking around.

Good thing the safety protocols are absolutely never on. At all. Ever. And when they do they just switch off like the most maddeningly contrary bit of user interface imaginable. If nothing else, it prepares the kids for the exciting world of IT.

Well, in fairness, Logan was in charge of the school for only a short while, before he hit the bucket, but they've still had to deal with the same bad stuff from what I've seen, just been lucky enough to avoid any fatalities so far.

Hmm, I suppose the only good thing about that awful Arena comic is that it showed that there are multiple schools like that around the world, rather than Xavier's and the Avengers Academy being the exclusive examples.

The UK one is run by Captain Britain and his family, for example. :)

Daredevil has been Eisner-award winning excellent stuff since Waid took over in 2011. Get onboard!

Daredevil's been great for many years, even before Waid came on board. Both Bendis and Brubaker had great runs, though theirs was considerably darker and more noir.

Waid's, on the hand, is even better. It brings back the light-heartedness that the character was lacking, putting him firmly back into the Marvel universe and dealing with superpowers more. And having fun doing it, like taking Silver Surfer's board for a short joy ride around New York.

Whoa, late to the party xD Waid's Daredevil has been great since the start (2011, volume 3 - the issue posted here is volume 4), go check it out. Better late than never.

I hadn't come across Waid's comments about depression before, but I've long suspected he might have a close experience with it because he writes it so well. This issue was breathtaking.

And by the way, everyone who keeps complaining about DD's light-heartedness should take a look at issues like this to see how this title deals with darkness and light and how Waid has not turned it into a happy-go-lucky book.

Ouch - right in the feels.

As someone whose been wrangling my own depression issues, I have to say I like how this was handled. The whole "Inertia is the enemy" line sums it up very well.

Still, the crap Matt Murdock goes through would make anyone depressed. And there's the whole "What's from my situation and what's the result of my brain's screwed up chemistry." And Matt's brain chemistry is... different than most. (I've wondered what an MRI of Matt's brain would show. Sounds like something Waid would do.)

The kids being cured seems a bit of a cop out, but there isn't really much they could do with them otherwise, I guess.
