That was pretty much my thought. The big two are always finding new ways to make their protagonists unhappy, and "the evil that men do" is super common theme among independent comics.
It's not that there are no happy comics. Boom is putting out several, and Marvel seems to be warming up to the idea, to an extent. (There's certainly more examples, but I only know what I'm reading.) But happy comics aren't exactly chocking the marketplace. But somehow everyone treats, "In this comic people are JERKS to each other!" as some revolutionary concept.
I can definitely understand being burned out writing positive things and wanting a creative outlet for his negativity. But he could have chosen a more creative and interesting way to do it.
Do people just not understand what "repressed" means? Because everyone seems to have somehow gotten to thinking it means "suppression, super-bad edition".
You consciously SUPPRESS dissent, you unconsciously REPRESS memories of that time you ate at Jane's.
Founded by girl geeks and members of the slash fandom, scans_daily strives to provide an atmosphere which is LGBTQ-friendly, anti-racist, anti-ableist, woman-friendly and otherwise discrimination and harassment free.
Bottom line: If slash, feminism or anti-oppressive practice makes you react negatively, scans_daily is probably not for you.
