He really was! Look at that serene art on the wall. Forget all the metatalk about redemption in this series. His is the truest tragic story in this book.
What a damn waste. Still makes me angry. I liked the book and even if it was going to be canceled that was no reason to sink the Punishe/Electra ship. This final arc added nothing to the universe and took away some of the good ideas. What a fucking waste of space.
Wasn't that pretty much also the aftermath of Soule's run on Red Lanterns? Someone else comes in, doesn't really know what to do with the book, book gets cancelled. Apres Soule, l'deluge.
Yeeeeaaaaahhhh, I'm going to chalk this up to editorial just wanting to shut down the book in time for Inversionfest and asking Acker & Blacker if they could pitch in. No way is anything this lazy the original product of the minds behind the Thrilling Adventure Hour.
(In fact, some of those longer speech balloons look like they'd do much better as spoken-word speeches than something suited for comics. I can practically hear Mark Gagliardi doing Deadpool's lines here.
Deadpool is right, much as I hate to admit it. GMs have been cautioning each other over letting teams of self-described loners happen for decades now, probably since at least the early days of D&D.
I guess I'll say it: this worked for me. Sterns' plotting finally amounted to something, Ross's chickens came home to roost, Deadpool was funny, and things made sense. Yeah, Frank and Elektra fell out, but that was inevitable at some point, anyway--he kills criminals, and she's a professional assassin. That's like shipping Samus Aran and Vash the Stampede--sure, they're cute together, but sooner or later the tectonic forces of opposing ideologies are going to (at best) break them up. There's room for them to make another go of it down the line, but a relationship like theirs isn't going to happen without rough patches and hurt feelings.
As a bonus, "This is why you don't network guns, everyone!" made me laugh.
That was nice, too. He's kind of needed a pick-me-up, after getting outwitted by Kid Loki, thrashed by the T-bolts, and then rug-pulled on the Sigurd deal by Teen Loki. He's got to win once in a while, and spectacularly, or he kind of loses his cred as "horrible devil at whose mercy you never, ever want to be."
Looks like Sterns is going to be helping him get his evil groove back.
