"East of West is a story about that feeling we're experiencing collectively right now, as a society, that the world is in a bit of a death spiral. The tagline of the book is, "The things that divide us are stronger than the things that unite us." You know, the end times are imminent and we all hate each other too much to come together and solve our problems. Our final destination is imminent, and it is the Apocalypse." - Jonathan Hickman

Let's take a look at the second issue of East of West. Let's meet our other villains of the series as they all gather to meet, bring in the new US President (who only got to her position due to a lot of political assassination that apparently no person ever mentions).

So Chamberlain heads back to his office...

The thing that Chamberlain has to offer Death? The whereabouts of his long lost wife that he thought had died. She's being held by the House of Mao who have her under armed powersuit guard.

To be honest, of all the villains in this series, the only one I really like is Chamberlain because he's the only one who feels all that interesting and has some moments that I do admire in a villain (plus his cat joke did get me).

I like the Western vibe...and that, judging from these scans, it doesn't try to copy that of Preacher.

You sure? Because apart from being a little skinnier and cleaner, I realised just now that this Death is a dead ringer for the Saint of Killers.

Maybe a little, now you mention it.

I hope that's as far as the resemblance goes, because the Saint is the Saint and there's no point reinventing the wheel. (Yes, he's my favourite character in Preacher.)

So... the guy isn't really the anthropomorphic representation of Death itself? He's just a really, superhumanly adept killer? Or what?

'Cuz I'm not getting it.
