The strange thing is that there was a period in the 90s into the 2000s when Kingdom Come and its charatcters, outfits, and possible futures dominated DC Editorial thought. Now its seems like they really loathe it.
They sure must have commissioned that statue quickly.
And I'm a little confused as to how an admittedly large explosion which he was warned about is supposed to have killed Green Lantern, who can make forcefields.
Well they gotta push it through obviously. If mass murderers like Cyborg-Superman, Captain Boomerang, and Deathstroke (but especially Cyborg-Superman) don't deserve a heroic memorial, who does?
best i can think of? that she somehow exploited the yellow weakness to make sur ehte explosion affected him. if not, maybe the explosion was strong enough to break the barrier?
Yep! The Emerald Knight here is from Kingdom Come, where Alan created the
green-energy space-castle-station that serves as the background and
'splosion fodder.
IIRC at least one of the folks involved(I want to say Alex Ross) wanted Hal but couldn't because Hal was currently evil so instead Alan basically showed up as a Hal Expy. With the whole New Oa station and all.
Alex Ross is a notorious Hal as GL fanboy, refusing to draw Kyle Rayner as GL, and there is a story that at a signing for his "Myhtology" book, which coincided with the announcement that Hal was coming back as GL and Kyle would be relegated, his reaction was "We won!"
OH yeah he was part of that HEAT group that managed to kill any positive feelings I ever had about Hal. The fact that while I can admire the technical skill of Ross's art it just wasn't to my taste so I pretty much ignore him as much as possible.
In "The Kingdom" event I believe that the space station is taken down when someone shoves a pencil into one of the walls, and the wood of the shaft disrupts the whole thing.
IIRC it was a wooden club and the plan was to smash the model that somehow sustained the thing. Alan had created a model to exist permanently.
there was some talk about checking the new arrivals for wood since a pencil could go through the wall or something. One of the renegade hero kids who decided they were all going to die was behind the attempt to destroy the station IIRC.
