To quote/paraphrase Carrie from TDKR: Doesn't suck.

Also, the scene gives me hope that, despite Miller's name on the project, this won't be FOX News: The Graphic Novel.

My money is that it'll end up mostly mediocre and forgettable. Either that or Miller will storm out halfway through and swear to never work with DC again, a la Alan Moore.

Man, say what you will about Miller's last couple Bat projects, but they were MEMORABLE trainwrecks.

He also wrote Holy Terror, which depicts all Middle Easterners as violent, Muslim Terrorists.

Sooo, the fear is well-founded.

The first page of Holy Terror is an out of context quote from the Qu'ran saying it's okay to kill infidels and implies that all Muslims are league with terrorists.

Yeah, the problem is that there are NO good Muslims/Arabs in that book. Zip, zero, nada, none, etc. And NONE of the dialogue EVER makes the distinction between good Muslims (i.e. the VAST MAJORITY of them) and the TINY fraction of fanatics, not once). Add to that Miller's own comments, which further demonstrates how little he seems to know about, well anything when it comes to this issue, and yeah. He doesn't get the benefit of the doubt from a lot of people.

Well, there's that, plus scenes like the protagonist saying "So Mohammed, pardon me for guessing your name, but you’ve got to admit the odds are pretty good that it’s Mohammed" don't exactly help Frank's case.

Yeah, and so does the Bible, but that doesn't mean every Christian is a villain waiting to murder at the drop of the hat.

To be fair, I think Frank Miller is doing the plotting while Brian Azzarello writes the actual dialogue or script.

As much as I legitimately do think that Give Me Liberty is utterly stellar and something of a forgotten gem on top of being surprisingly progressive, 1) it came out literally 25 years ago, people change, and 2) the sequel, Martha Washington Goes To War, is an out and out adaptation of Atlas Shrugged which imo lessens its predecessor. As these things go, Martha Washington isn't the best argument for today's Frank Miller not being on the outer fringe of the political right wing.

He's probably conservative in a number of respects but unless he was one of the people defending George Zimmerman I don't see why preview pages like this would be a shock to anyone.

I had the impression that Frank Miller was a chest thumping neo-con on a handful of issues rather than being one of the no holds barred, all in arch-conservatives.

I actually think these pages look really good, though I'm steadfastly cynical about the book overall. I'm very curious about how'll be replacing Lynn Varley as colorist, since on account of the rotating artists the coloring is likely to be the deciding factor in whether or not this book really feels like its predecessors.

Have they announced there would be rotating artists on interiors? I was pretty sure that it was Kubert with Klaus Janson inking. As for colors, yeah, Varley will definitely be missed.

I've been gunning for a female Batman for a while, but over at mainstream. Still, I'll take what I can get.

Nah, separate entities: I dig Kate Kane. I'm looking for more of a Jane Foster-as-Thor direction.

To be honest, I was being a little tongue-in-cheek there, since -- unless there was some playing around with gender going on -- a female Batman would surely be a Batwoman also.

Not necessarily. They could be doing the whole 'Samus Aran' schtick.

True, but I was counting that as falling under "playing around with gender" (i.e. identifying a woman as if she was a man, so to speak).

So how old is Batman supposed to be in this story now anyway? Eighty? Ninety?

I'm actually pretty sure that TDKR Batman isn't as old as the story treats him, keep in mind that Miller wrote the story because he was anxious about turning 30. Batman's described as middle aged, which I wouldn't put anywhere past his early fifties at most, so depending on the timeline there's no reason for him to be past maybe his early sixties.

That sounds right. In TDKR, when he fakes his death a TV anchor reports his age as fifty-five.
