There's a nicely eccentric vibe to how Spurrier comes up with new personae for Davey, quite like Crazy Jane in Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol and possibly for ther same reason; A chance to go for the more off the wall than usual creations because they don't need to hang around long. I know he's said in interviews that the Origamist is one of his favourite creations.
