From JSA 70 and 71, due to time travel schenanigans the modern version fo the JSA have ended up back in 1951. As they fan out to meet the now mostly retired members of the original JSA, modern day Mr Terrific, Michael Holt, finds his progress severely impeded by the racist laws of the time.

And then he bumps into these idiots.

Next issue,

As a comparison, here's the Dr Midnite of the 21st century meeting the original.

Yep. I can't believe DC let this go. Also - this is how I will always picture Terry Sloan, a good man who believed in Fair Play and became a hero. Not the EvilestEvil Poor Man's Lex Luthor of the DCnU Earth-2

JSA is where I really got into comics. I don't even know what they're trying to do with Stargirl now that she's not connected to the Starman legacy.

I agree. The characters were interesting, and the stories were exciting and positive.

I loved the original Mr. Terrific's interactions with the new one. Their fist meeting - mentioned here - had probably my favourite bit of dialogue. I'm paraphrasing, but it was something like:

"So, you're the new Mr. Terrific. And chairman of JSA?"
"That's right."
"A black chairman?"
"...is that a problem?"
"Not at all. Quite the opposite, in fact."

I've always loved the JSA. Such a shame that they're relegated to the past now. Oh, well, there's always the bargain bins!

I tell myself that eventually the current powers-that-be and writers of the moment at DC will be gone, and someone who was a teen fanboy reading Johns' and Robinson's work with the JSA in the late 90s will revive them in a respectful manner.
