Deadpool moments: UNCANNY X-FORCE #5

With the Deadpool movie coming out on Friday, I thought I'd post one of my favorite Deadpool moments. And it doesn't involve him being all that funny or crazy. It is from UNCANNY X-FORCE #5, and shows that Wade Wilson has something resembling a conscience.



X-Force found out Clan Akkaba had resurrected Apocalypse. They went to kill him, only to find out En Saba Nur was a little kid. There was some debate over what to do with him.

Then Fantomex shot the boy in the head.

The team is at Cavern-X, a kind of X-Men trophy room/time capsule that Warren built.





Ah, yes. The "doing immoral things so moral people won't have to" argument.



Logan was going to rescue Li'l Apocalypse. Then Fantomex killed L'il Apocalypse.



Wade Wilson not taking money. Wow.

When I posted this in February of 2011, it was mentioned in the comments that "X-Men Of My Heart" sounds like a magical girl shoujo series.

Bonus! It turned out Fantomex took some blood from the dead L'il Apocalypse and cloned a new one, a boy named Evan. Deadpool has a soft spot for Evan, believe it or not. I don't know where the following two panels are from, though.

When Deadpool stops being overexposed - I hope we get more moments like this, which treat him like an actual character with emotions, rather than a walking punchline.
It's nice to see him behave this way, I'd have a lot more time for him if it happened more often.

I don't know, he's actually being written as pretty mature in Uncanny Avengers, it's really surprised me.

His solo series has also been fantastic, prettu much none stop since the pre-Secret Wars launch.

Logan- when DEADPOOL of all people starts having issues with what you're doing, it's time to pay attention.

At first I was afraid this was going to be from the original X-Force run. Liefeld--shudder.

These are a two of my favourite Deadpool scenes. ^_^ Though this does remind of something else. Deadpool and Bullseye were once hired to kill an entire wedding. (Was it a wedding?) While they killed everyone they were also contemplating about the mercenary business and Bullseye told Wade something in the fashion of Deadpool would never become a better assassin because he has hangups. Whatever. Anyone know what scene I mean and from what issue?

I think it might be Deadpool #16 (1998) "Win, Lose, or Draw Blood." Deadpool and Bullseye are in Greece trying to take down some rich crimelord or something. They fight his bodyguards and DP only seems to incapacitate them rather than kill them. The two mercs philosophize about their work, and Bullseye does call DP on the fact that he seems to think he still has morals.

Something along those lines at least. At best, I remember DP using a Sheep-Gun and later remarking that he doesn't like marsupials because he doesn't trust anything that has more pouches than he does while naked.

And Evan actually overcame his inversion thanks to the friendship between him and Big Bro Wade.

Have to say, if someone told me Deadpool had been going on kill-positive missions, but hadn't cashed his cheques, my first reaction would be "You mean he's been doing this for FUN?!"

Some mix of fun and "it's the right thing to do."

Or he knew Logan would at some point call him a money-grubbing mercenary (which he is) and deliberately not cash the cheques because of ethics or something. Deadpool has a conscience (of sorts) and sometimes he just can't take money for something.

One thing I liked about this series is how well Deadpool's characterization and storylines seemed to mesh with Cable & Deadpool.

This is the same guy who, instead of fishing, chums the waters with bits of himself and then jumps into the water to kill his great, white, catch up close and personal because it's less boring. So, that part is kinda expected. Logan wouldn't be surprised by that.

But wasn't Genesis (Evan) made from Apocalypse and Jean Gray's DNA by Mr Sinister? I think that happened in an AU or something.

Maybe you're thinking of the time when AoA Jean got herself a death seed? Evan was made by Fantomex, out of genuine Nur DNA.

They're all killers so what difference does it make if they're killing kids or kittens, its all bad. I'm with Wolvie here, this team was a hit squad nothing more nothing less.

Thier's a difference between killing a innocent kid , who could be redeemed or serial villain. X-force was made to be a pre-emptive team to kill threats early on, not kill kids just because of who they are. Evan is a good example of how a kid destined to be bad, can be good.

I wonder if Deadpool loses sleep over the families he obliterates when he's busy blowing holes through hench men & women/soliders? How many orphans has this guy made? Am I supposed to believe he loses sleep over kid that will eventually become Apocalypse? I don't think there are degrees to these types of things. either everyone can be redeemed or there is no redemption...IMO of course.

Are you really believing there is no difference between killing people who choose to do evil than a innocoent child?

Considering that kid is now Evan(who is destined to become Apocalypse in some stories and has turned into him due to the inversion), a good kid and one of the nicest x-men, he is proof that it is possible.

No, I just stand by the killing of Apocalypse by this particular team. This is why this team was put together, To keep the camp fire from turning into a forest fire. Evan had a 50/50 shot at becoming what he was. If he did go bad eveyone would be wishing they had killed him when they had the chance.Deadpool can't preach to anybody, none of them can. This group is essentially bad people brought together to kill worst people.

Yet, we have no idea if he was taken to the school if he would go bad?

A standard villain, if a talkative one who worked for Mr. Toliver (who was Cable's son, Tyler). We didn't get his fourth wall breaking powers until his third series IIRC.
