I've never been able to understand why villains (especially low rent ones like the six) would actually be interested in running entire continents, far too much like hard work.

Your ponderings remind me of a Marvel trade paperback when Dr. Doom took over the Earth by using the Purple Man. He actually, legit won and would have been unbeatable, except before he made a move to defeat the Avengers he was recalling all the bureaucratic headaches ruling the Earth entailed, and decided to "lose". It was a pretty good story, if I recall.

I thought he decided to give it up because he felt mind controlling the populace into serving him was a hollow victory and he wanted the people to serve them of their own will or something like that.

I think it was a bit of both. It was too easy AND too boring.

Villains tend to be petty flawed egotists who like the idea of running their own continent without realizing that doing so would be a lot of work. Wanting is better than having, after all.

Best seen with Doctor Doom. He's fine running a small country, but whenever he wins big, he falls apart. Trying to keep a patchwork world up and running as its god emperor was clearly wearing him down in Secret Wars 2015.

Looking at that cover, where, as usual, the one woman is standing with her back to the camera and twisting around. How do artists not see how awkward the composition is? The Civil War poster has the same problem with Black Widow (because she needs to be sexy! not scary!).

I'd like to see a redraw where the camera is front on to the woman and see what everyone else looks like then. Might show how daft it is.

And this is around the point where in hindsight, I started to sour on Simone's work; everyone is an asshole, the villains are just a big a piece of shit as in Millar's work, and she just dressed it up on occasion by having the leads have the vaguest of standards and inserting stuff that the fans could 'squee' over. It was tolerable, even fairly enjoyable up until about the end of the second arc in the Secret Six ongoing, after which point I realised she'd entered into a wash/rinse/repeat cycle with the characters.

Honestly, if this had say, Millar's name on it, back in the day, with a villain declaring they're gonna 'do it for Light' and that they're going to 'break all the commandments', people would have balked over it and declared how edgy it was.

A part of me soured on Simone's work ever since the Wasp incident (and I swore there was also something concerning Devin Grayson's "nonconsensual sex" thing with Dick and Tarantula). But yeah actual disappointmentioned in her writing came afterwards. And also how some fans feel she's can't do anything wrong with said writing...

This mini reminded me how, despite writing so many monstrous multifaceted villains, she really didn't like Cheshire what with what happens here in this series, her cold reasoning for having a second child, and even Simone having one of her S6 pets calling her a slut which any other writer would be called out for that. And now that you mention it, while not as bad as Miller, she did go to some...areas that did we really need to go there? Like Mad Hatter jerking off in a hat, how Huntress promiscuity was handled, and having a Babs fan boy be dismissive of Cass and talk about Babs' breasts...

Back when the Wasp was killed off for whatever she tweeted something along the lines of "I don't care why you killed the Wasp bUT I'm glad you did! #womenwhodeservetherefirgerator" so yeah the women who coined the term to discuss the unhealthy dead women trend in media uses it on a character she doesn't like (bc from what I recalled she didn't like how Jan was written in a problematic Era for women which happen to many at some point look at Diana even). I barely know anything about Jan eve back then but it wreaked of unprofessionaism, not just the sexism issues but the fact people cared about this character and she died in a shitty way. I mean I understand not everyone is going to like every character and has their reasons but come on.
