Ohhhhhhhh, I LOVED UDON's Street Fighter series :DDD

They made such a fantastic job with the franchise. They actually managed to turn the chaotic mess of the "story" into a legit plot and made the characters really shine (without sacrificing other characters in the process, all the characters had a good showing. Capcom should learn from them, it was absurd how they thought that the best way to introduce new character C. Viper in the OAV was to make her utterly humiliate fan-favourite Cammy).

I also loved how the different minis had such different atmosphere. The Sakura mini was hilarious comedy, while the Chun Li mini was a moving drama (and holy shit, they managed to turn Dan into a tragic character).

Seriously, I'd kill for UDON to make a The King of Fighter comic.

Pretty much the only thing I didn't like is that the TPB was too small-seized. Just because that particular format works with manga doesn't necessarily mean it works well with American comics, especially when the paper quality is thick and rigid. It was annoying because, while reading the TPB, I had to constantly take care not to damage the spine.

This. So much this. Street Fighter had such a disparate mess of a story prior to Udon taking things on, and they really cleared things up. Even their main series - while probably a little too stretched out - really did a great job. The current stuff's really fun in terms of bridging the gap to SFV, as well.

But yeah. It's a shame none of their other Capcom properties never fully caught on, like Darkstalkers or Rival Schools; they also could have done wonders with the Resident Evil franchise, I figure. They did also do reprintings of the three minis (Sakura/Chun Li/Ibuki) recently in a bigger hardcover format, which I think matches up to their Ultimate Editions for the regular comics.

I'm haunted by prettier editions of books I already own.

I really enjoyed their take on Rival Schools. It definitely should've been more popular.

I think they began a new SF run recently.

Mm, it's a tie-in to V, explaining the backstory there; I'm not sure if it's set before or after V's story mode coming next month, but Bison is apparently absent, and they're explaining a bit more of the Illuminati subplot of III, which is - naturally and confusingly - set after IV and V.

The problem III had was it jumped the timeline a bit much, so makes sense.

And there's also the SF / GI Joe comic.

Mm. The SF/GI Joe book is.. Not good, apparently. Seemingly a little too much emphasis on random pairings and characters jobbing to others in slightly nonsensical faceoffs.

Poor Kei. To be Sakura's best friend is to suffer, sometimes...

Is it odd that my takeaway is "Of course Ryu is a 'hunt and peck' typist?"

Just give him a giant keyboard with giant keys he can punch, that would work out better for him.
