Oh, oh dear. This comic is making me feel all lightheaded and tingly. And there's this horrible, growing sense that things will turn out well... I must flee, before it infects me further!
(Hey, Loki! I don't know what they're doing there, and I don't care either! They're not being evil. 's all that matters.)
I think Loki was helping her with a spell to be in many different places at once (that went kind of pear-shaped, because of course it did). The last set of Ms. Marvel scans I saw had a bunch of ditto-faced clones of her going around and doing filling in for her in various places.
Full explanation (I'm bored and like to talk about Loki):
In issue #12 of the previous run of Ms. Marvel Loki put up a protection spell around their school.
In #16 it activated and summoned the "lightning golems" to get rid of the looters.
In #1 of this run it was established that said golems decided to stay (or are too stupid to go home).
In #4 we see Bruno's experiment in which he replicated the material the golems are made of... this gets promptly repurposed by Kamala so she can be at several places at the same time. On the last page we see that "unexpectedly" the lightning golem based Kamala replicas are multiplying (and are very bored).
In #5 things spiral out of control (and it's here when someone first suggested to ask Loki for help, Kamala objected strongly).
In #6 (the one these scans are from) Bruno as last ditch effort (after making a T-Rex didn't work either) tried to summon Loki... with mixed success. Loki appeared not because the ritual worked but because how utterly ridiculous it was. -> LOKI HELPS!
Ooh, thank you. See, I knew about the lightning golems from Loki's spell
last run, and I knew from previous scans that Kamala had a bunch of clones
running around, but I hadn't been aware of the connection between the two.
Man, tradewaiting this series is hard.
Well, Bruno and Mike summoned Loki (or tried too, the jerk appreciated the entertainment value at least) when they run out of ideas how to fix things. It ranked as more desperate plan than "Make a T-Rex". XD
Marvel: Oh hey look. A comic that has been doing good by itself and not being interrupted by anything.... QUICK! STUFF IT IN THE BAG! We got to take it and throw it into Civil War II for the next few months!
Yeah, between Last Days and Civil War II, two of the six Miss Marvel arcs/TPBs out by this summer will have been crossover tie-ins, which, imho, isn't great.
Of course we all know that the idea behind tie-ins is to pique the readers interest and get them buying the main book (and then hopefully all of the other tie-ins) but I don't think Miss Marvel needs to be that kind of book. Using it this way just feels a little tacky, no matter how well the writer can tie it in.
Could be worse. Could be Ewings run on Mighty Avengers. Infinity, Original Sin, Axis, Last Days. I think he had, at best, two issues between events. At least he was good at using it for separate stories.
Wilson is the shit. Tony and Carol act like themselves, but their most likable selves, and everyone else here is an absolute treasure. It would've been so easy to keep writing Aamir as just "the pretentious big brother" forever, but Wilson is far, far above that.
I made sure to show that panel of Tony hugging Kamala to a friend of mine who needs to hear something like what he tells her from time to time.
The moment when Aamir started worrying about his future Blackistani children was the moment I stopped hating him. I guess because it's him finally acknowledging that he is in, and part of, America and has American concerns -- both good and bad. Honestly he had his head stuck so far up his ass in the early issues; I'm enjoying seeing him humanized in this arc.
