Y'know, the idea of a ludicrously power item being formed in response to devastating events as the Earth's self-defence mechanism is actually... kind of interesting?
Everything else, not so much. Why do they bother even rebuilding the Triskelion by this point? This is what, the fifth time it's been blown up / smashed / had something dropped on it? How much is that costing each time?
It's an awfully counter-productive self-defense mechanism, though. Half the events on that list were caused by humans or other intelligent beings. Creating artifacts of planet-busting power that can only be used by those same creatures is really not gonna make the Earth safer, I don't think.
Oh, I didn't say it was sensible, or practical. Just that it was kind of interesting.
And that might only be compared to the rest of the ideas on display. (And ones that haven't turned up yet but are there, like where one of the gems is... or who Kang turns out to be...)
Why is it every time I see another Ultimates comic, it seems like it's just on this long, slow slide down the drain. It's no wonder it's gone...by the end it was just a mercy killing.
I mean, I said it before: by that point, it is virtually indistinguishable from the 616, except for cosmetics. I mean, if I told you this happened in the regular MU (you can say 616 is gone, I just don't believe you), sans larger context, you could easily see all of this happening main continuity, except that civilian life is even cheaper in the UU than the MU, which is saying something. But at this point they've pretty much abandoned all pretense of being 'in the world you live in'.
I really enjoyed this part of the run. All the "homegrown Hydra" stuff between the first evil Reed arc and this were meh but this looked to be something cool and I think it delivered for the most part.

Bottom line: If slash, feminism or anti-oppressive practice makes you react negatively, scans_daily is probably not for you.
