"This wasn't about turning you into a monster, Reed."
Because Reed was so nice and innocent before you came along, "Kang". I mean, he only murdered his family (okay abusive evil dad but still), dropped squids on several buildings, killing hundreds at the very least, raided Project PEGASUS and killed some SHIELD goons... Wiped out an entire goddamn culture in the space of half an hour...
But those were all, y'know, missteps! He's a sort-of-good-ish person underneath. Vaguely! If you squint real hard!
Given the weirdly squeaky clean redemption he got at the end of Ultimate FF, from the same writer who did this, apparently that is what we're supposed to think.
I dismissed everything Ultimates after Ultimatum, but god damn if this isn't good. A beautiful mix of tragic (the fall of the Fantastic Four) and thrilling.
Y'know going fully transhuman with Iron Man is actually a pretty cool idea, and one which they could never do long term in the 616, it's a shame that they undid it down the line.
But that was always the problem with the late run Ultimate Universe, willing to change things, but never in ways that were actually interesting.
"Small-minded, petty little pervert" is, like, a triply redundant insult. For shame, Reed.
So why is Reed's cone-head bald on top? Doesn't his hair stretch too? 616 Reed, at least, has stretched his head in lots of directions and it always remained fully behaired...
Come to think of it, why does he still have a scar, and why does he add it to all his stretch-clones? Deliberate cosmetic choice?
And then I was reminded who everything in the Ultimates Universe became terrible all the time forever. Ugh.
What amazes me is how the Ultimates Universe rushed so fast to convolute their world. They started fairly simply, but moved as fast as possible to drop every character they could muster into their continuity...and as their universe shrank, they doubled-down on it faster and faster and more and more. As their readership and titles dwindled, they just started throwing more and more stuff in the pot, like when you take another stick of gum to get the flavor back after you've been chewing some for a while...but it never lasts and soon you've just got a big gooey mess.

Who is this Kang, now?
And any word on how Quicksilver survived? His death is what triggered Magneto to do Ultimatum, right?
