For Thundra this is pretty subtle.

I thought that too, and then I remembered her backstory. It's a brilliant safe word! For her anyway, because it's a concept she would consider absurd and thus never say inadvertently. Like canine-archy for the rest of us.

And for some reason my mind goes to the guaranteed passion-killer phrase that is mentioned in Rik Mayall's "The New Statesman" when someone needs to stop a rather unfortunate boner;

Even as a gay guy, that one can bring my libido to a screeching halt for hours at a time.

I used to work with somebody whose dream job was to be the nurse for Baroness Thatcher.

This was entirely so he could start every day by reminding telling her for the first time that her husband was dead.

The only reason Thundra would need a safe word is if -she- was in the submissive role and felt like things had gotten out of control and she needed to disengage. And there is no way that Thundra would ever choose to be the sub in that encounter; she's never exactly shown any signs of being submissive or even switch.

So in that case, it's up to Hyperion to choose his safeword, because it has to be something he can remember even when he's deep in the throes of subspace and can't think clearly. It's not really Thundra's place to tell him what his safeword would be.

Which makes me wonder just what exactly Thundra thinks is going to happen on a first encounter between them, anyway. Is she telling us that the only way she can get it on with a guy is if he dominates her? (Unlikely from her traditional portrayal and background). That she has to be the domme? (Likely, but if that's the case, she's not exactly coming off in the best light.) That she expects sex between them to be intense, possibly violent, potentially mountain-shattering, and the safeword is in case they are at risk of leveling a small city?

And now I'm trying to seriously analyze the D/s roles in a superhero relationship between a Superman archetype and a Wonder Woman archetype.

I've known some Doms to establish safewords for themselves, especially with with new partners and during new practices, in case they themselves become uncomfortable and need to deescalate.

Yes, you're right. Strong, dominant women like Thundara and I, who never show any sign of being submissive in our daily lives whatsoever, would absolutely never, ever, be switches who would enjoy giving up a bit of control to someone who made us feel safe and relieved some of the crushing pressures of the world. Nope. Never.

Honestly, the thing that reads false here is that she'd ever accept a MAN in that role.

I obviously can't speak for what works for you, but Thindra submitting to a guy just doesn't ring true with her history, especially how she has always gone for the strongest guys around ( Thing, Arkon...) as an equal or as their perceived superior. She doesn't feel like a switch to me under normal circumstances.

Maybe if she was in a trusting relationship, but she barely knows this Hyperion, I figured.

Hmmm. Who would be a proper female companion for her?
