Norman says he's willing to offer his scientific mind in exchange to see Harry. He asks where Harry is being held.

Fury's absence is explained in the 'Ultimate Power' miniseries which I did not read but basically Fury is stuck in the 'Squadron Supreme' universe at this time.

Back at S.H.I.E.L.D., an explosion has gone off in Norman's cell.

Yep, that's Gwen. You'll see what she's up to later.

Norman thinks to himself the difference is that he knows he's a monster, and Fury doesn't.

Peter has May leave to keep her safe. He goes to encounter Norman.

#115...

On the TV she sees that Spider-Man has been taken into S.H.I.E.L.D. custody. She leaves to help.

She wants to know what he knows about Norman.

At this point Kitty phases through Carol and into Pete's cell and grabs him. They escape.

Norman is attacking his old accountant to get his money.

#116...

Norman and Peter both crash through the ground, but Kitty grabs Peter to phase through with him before he can be hurt.

Outside, however, the Goblin is nowhere to be seen.

Disguised S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are waiting outside Peter's house in case anything happens. Peter goes in and finds Norman Osborn sitting on his couch. He tells Peter that if he tries to notify the agents he'll kill them. Peter asks what he wants.

A note is slid under the door. It tells them to turn on the TV.

#117...

Outraged, Norman heads over to S.H.I.E.L.D. to confront his son. Spider-Man tries to follow to intervene.

Both Goblins end up fighting each other.

Carol tries to comfort Peter but he's furious at how she handled Harry and tells her to stay away from him.

My two cents: I didn't have a problem with Harry's death but I do think he should have at least had a stand-alone issue or an additional scene because as it is his appearance at the end is very abrupt.

Norman's death I found to be appropriately tragic with him quietly asking to be killed. Of course, he didn't stay dead and his remaining appearances in the title just ended up diluting what was in my opinion a powerful ending for him.

Worse Carol Danvers: Ultimate Carol, or Civil War II Carol?

Yes, I really liked this finale for him.

I really wish Marvel could keep this comic in print. The trades, I mean. They're still releasing new ultimate editions, but the earlier volumes are out of print. :(

So how does Kitty see through that mask-thing she's wearing?

Poor Harry. His death is sad, but... yeah, it would've probably been more poignant if he'd shown up since Hobgoblin.
(And why does he get to stay dead when Norman and Peter both got resurrections?)

And this is really where Norman started to get obnoxious (okay, yeah, he only reappears two more times, but after this the storyline just bends over backwards to have him come back and chuck fireballs. Plus, he kept killing more interesting characters.)

On the other hand, this did give us Norman chillin' on Peter's couch in a toga made of bedsheets. That is a pretty brilliant sort of insane image.

Not going to say Ultimate Carol is a Terrible Person, but at best, in this storyline, she accomplished nothing of value, and did so in the most idiotic fashion possible.
And that's probably why you don't arbitrarily put Air Force officers in charge of an intelligence agency.

(also, didn't the lawyer Norman almost kill look suspiciously like He Who Must Not Be Named? Because they did look suspiciously like He Who Must Not Be Named. Now why would Bendis do something like that, I wonder?)

It's weird how loose things were here, continuity-wise. F'r instance, when we last saw Norman's inner monologue he was hallucinating like someone on an acid-trip and seeing little talking mole-men ghosts. Now he's just...a little intense?
