Before I got to reading the context in these scans, I was really, really confused as to why the little Ms. Marvel in the teaser image had Ekans' tail.

Ugh the first enconteur with the New Ms Marvel & Mar-vel and is just a parody of sexist fan-fic.

Still tought, even I d'ont like Ms Marvel in the Avengers and the idea of kids in a Avengers team.

There are times it's really weird, but then times when I'm like, "...well, they tried once telling the Young Avengers to knock it off and look how that went. Prolly figured it be best to rope every teen to an older crew if they're gonna be throwing on longjohns anyway."

I mean, like glprime said, telling teen heroes to knock it off has never worked out ever. And superhero schools also have a bad history in Marvel, so giving them adult hero mentors to train them and have their backs seems the best idea.

Also Tony makes the best Superhero Dad. Seeing him teaching Miles and Kamala how to superhero is adorable.

True, I think a alot of this new teenage heroes will be have a better reception if they have been partern with their inspiration, especially the new Nova.

I don't know which of the two lines cracks me up more. The "It's called a mantle, not a womantle" or "You're not my real dad, Charlie."

Both of them just capture a certain sense in a delightful way.

I also love how the bad guy is commenting on the trope of giving animal versions of heroes stupid puns for names. ("ugh, Hiss Marvel,. when I say it out loud it sounds so forced)".)

Also, please tell me the bad guy is Quack o Lantern.

I don't want to be "no fun allowed", but this does seem genuinely fun and seems more forced? I guess I'm just not the target audience

I suppose but off the top of my head Runaways and the Peter years on USM were in effect aimed at a teen audience and they never felt forced to me like this does.

Have you considered that it's because you're now further removed from teen culture than you were back then?

IDK because to the best of my memory Runaways and USM never really pushed 'teen culture' to the forefront to the extent that NuMarvel is with their current stuff. There might have been an occasional reference or backdrop but a lot of it was just teens dealing with issues. Rereading USM now I don't see anything like Peter quoting internet memes for example.

I do remember in the first issue there was stuff like teens going "that is so uncool" and "like, totally" which even as a teen came off as forced to me but Bendis dropped that within an issue or two.

I don't see what's forced about teens-- or anyone especially into internet culture, really-- quoting internet memes, tbh. My teen siblings and their teen friends do so quite often and I hear such things from teens and young twenty-somethings at work. Heck, I've occasionally done it myself since I was a teen and I remember it as being not unheard of throughout high school. Granted, I'm also not sure what's wrong with "that is so uncool" or even "like, totally" in the right context.

I'll take your word for it with the memes. In regards to the last bit, idk I've never seen anyone speak with the "totally radical" style that I see so often in the media depiction of teens that it always felt fake to me.

Honestly, I've heard and said "that is so uncool" so often for so long that it's odd to think of it as part of the "totally radical" school of dialogue. "Like, totally" is a much easier sell on that front if it's excessive or if basically every character is doing it/it's a mark of "cool" status (which, in hindsight, is probably the sort of thing you were referring to, oops). It more just wouldn't surprise me if it came up in the middle of speech, especially rambling speech, as I've known enough people who say "like" (in the "um, uh, er" sense) who'll also drop a "totally" in here or there that I've heard it come up. I think I've actually said it myself.

Other stuff featuring Kamela that I've read seems fun and youth-oriented but just not my cup of tea (which doesn't say anything bad about the quality, it's just a matter of taste and me being decades older than the target audience). This gives me the impression of the creators patting themselves on the back over how clever and hip they're being while simultaneously letting some disdainful mockery of the youth tropes they're depicting creep in.

This is probably because there are multiple writers and you have G. Willow Wilson, who is very familiar with internet fanfic culture if I understand correctly, and then you have Mark Waid, who's in his 50s. I don't know about the other writers, but this is the comics industry. A writer being out of touch is a safe assumption.

I'm sure Willow is 'aware' but a lot of her stuff like having Kamala quote doge memes and ramble on about fanfic and squee just comes across as an adult trying to be 'hip with the kids'.
