Feels like the standard double-standards. People say they want more non-heterosexual relationships in comics, one appears and then the goalposts immediately get moved a little bit further away. At the same time, you could bet if Iceman had gotten together with a POC, people would be accusing Marvel of tokenism, despite giving people what they asked for.

I think it's a little unfair to compare one individual's concern with intersectional representation with general consensus, especially imagined general consensus.

Besides which, there's been criticism for ages about gay white cis men dominating LGBT+ representation in media. People bemoaning a missed opportunity to introduce a not-straight character of color isn't moving the goalposts so much as noting that a play hasn't cleared the forty-yard line.

I want to get into this and yay for giving ice man a love interest... But I have reservations on Idie ( they really soured me on her during the Phoenix thing... She was pretty much a Pollyanna) and I pretty much loathe anything inhuman save AGENTS IF SHIELD... This Idie seems so much more fun... But such a 180 from before

On one hand I'm glad Iceman is being given a love interest but on the other the fact it is an inhuman just before the upcoming crossover bugs me a bit.

Also probably showing my age but is anyone else getting flashbacks to really bad Iceman/Gambit fanfic from the late 90's with these two.

Because it's an ongoing and permanent part of the character. Reversing it wouldn't help anything, leaving it in allows the character to develop in a new direction.
