Well, Pete, you fucked that up literally every imaginable way you possibly could have, and all but forced him into this path. Not bad enough that you don't respect him or support him, when he does help out, and saves lives, you dress him down in public, and tell him he can never work in his field of specialty ever, ever again. I mean, he should have said "send me back to prison" instead of this, but this was escalated and caused by the stupid prophecy and Pete's terrible handling of it.
If we accept the allegory for addiction, and I guess it might be valid, then understand this everyone. Never confront an addict who is just coming off their high. Let them straighten out a bit, deal with them after the high has worn off but before they start jonesing again.
How come this precog cannot predict the inevitable consequences of his own predictions?
If I ever get precognitive powers, I'm sticking to betting on horses and how close to relegation Kilmarnock FC come each year. The rest of the world can look after itself.
I thought he did... after Peter saved someone from a predicted disaster, he was warned that in saving them he was going to create a new supervillain (or somesuch). The events of the first prediction led to the second one.
So what's the problem with his sonic stuff? I mean, I guess it's a drug metaphor, but his super powered technology isn't like a literally harmful substance that makes your teeth fall out. Sonic isn't a specially illegal and dangerous theme. That wasn't what made him a super villain. Just teach him how not to use it like a fucking idiot.
Like, if you had Sandman switching sides to be a hero you wouldn't tell him he's not his sands powers would you? That would be fucking stupid and counterintuitive.
Based on what I can see here, probably because when he uses his sonic tech he goes overboard with it, he feels he HAS to use it, whether he should or not.
It doesn't matter that it's sonic tech, or alcohol, it's that it is the thing he obsesses over and can't stop using, given half a chance.
I completely agree. He thinks that he's being put on a leash, but he's been given an opportunity to do good for his work.
I think the thing that really won me over was when he said that Harry isn't on a leash because he's not on his Glider, and he's right. Harry accepts that he can't do certain things anymore if he wants to keep the trust that has been given to him. Clayton obviously wants to go out and use his tech, but he can't anymore because of who he was. And I agree with Peter when it comes to this.
HIs intent is good and I agree he's gone out of his way to help but his approach is... not ideal, probably because Pete isn't a trained addiction counsellor.
Since when is Peter this crap at talking someone down? Yes, "talking reason to the crazed super-villain" doesn't always work, but Clayton isn't crazed or a super-villain.
So Peter's never caused property damage or endangered civilians?
That seems to be the real damage that Clayton caused by using his Clash tech. Because Peter is addicted to being Spider-Man, almost pathologically, to the point where he's allowed it to harm his own life and the lives of the people around him.
Spider-Man has committed crimes, he's been wanted by the authorities. The only difference is that Peter's never been convicted.
Aside from a few examples (like when Peter caused Ock's tentacles to knock over the building) Peter is pretty responsible in containing damage away from civilians and whatnot. And a lot of times when he's been wanted by police it's because he's accused of committing crimes that he's not responsible for. Whereas Clash was a supervillan.
