Oh joy, more Terminator time travel snarl. So they're sending a Terminator to prevent this lady from creating a kill switch for the artificial skin that lets Terminator's blend in the past to prevent the Terminators from being stopped before they can... kill John Connor? Because they need to keep sending Terminators back to prevent people from stopping the future that as far as the machines are concerned has already happened.
Honestly, Terminator expanded universe only makes sense if you treat each story as it's own timeline. Or if you assume the machines are thinking on a level far beyond us and are trying to bring about Judgement Day on as many timelines as possible.
According to the screenwriters on Terminator Genisys, there's at least seven different timelines in play in that one movie. So, yeah, multiple timelines is a strong possibility.
Or if you assume the machines are thinking on a level far beyond us and are trying to bring about Judgement Day on as many timelines as possible.
I wouldn't actually mind that as a premise. Skynet keeps tweaking the pasts to ensure that every possible chain of events leads to its own creation; the humans keep searching for even a single potential future where Skynet loses or is never created, but so far they haven't found one.
I've gotta say, I love when series look at very niche and specific aspects of their world. Like, artificial skin is a very integral part of the Terminator plan, but it's not something you'd immediately think of.
