"With great power… comes great corruption. Superheroes are real. They walk the earth as gods among men. But the fairy tales of them protecting mankind and being heroes were all lies. Humans have become their slaves, fit only to serve their super powered masters. But in man the nature of the true hero still survives… and one group rises up to challenge their self-appointed masters. Can they hope to succeed or will their opposition only push mankind closer to extinction."

Soooo the Crime Syndicate. Seems pretty tamed for an indie book.

Hey, that's an insult to the Crime Syndicate. They actually run their Earth in a halfway orderly fashion; a stable society gives them stuff they want.

"Look kids, it's Superman, Flash, and Wonder Woman being EVIL for no reason!"

I shouldn't expect much from such a lazy title.

So is this basically Brandon Sanderson's reckoners trilogy?

Y'know, it'd be nice if someone, just once, did one of these using Marvel pastiches, instead of DC ones. Just, like, once.

Mark Millar did during his Authority run. In some ways, it felt like a precursor to The Ultimates.

You know what would be ground-breaking at this point?

Superheroes being superheroes. Maybe fighting supervillains for once.

An evil Superman?

Haven't seen one of those in a few days.

Look, when DC itself has done evil Superman, it's not exciting or edgy anymore. Honest.

Sigh.

I think, though, there's still untapped potential in having evil (or at the very least amoral) people look up to superheroes. Frank Miller (the Good Frank) acknowledged as much back in DKR.

And IIRC, Art Spiegelman said the kids who bullied him back in grade school were all superhero fans, which is why he never got into that genre.

Okay, those ersatz character designs are way, way, way too on the nose. It might not be enough to get them sued, but it just makes this look really uncreative.

Pretty much posted the exact same thing. This is the fanfic version of the Injustice comic right here. It isn't even particularly good fanfic either from what is on display here.

That rip off is so close to actual DC comics that I can't believe they haven't had a nasty lawyer's letter long before publication.

Tbh I don't take too much issue with the broad premise here, but the execution is just terrible: after years of evil superhuman stories being done as deconstructions, alt-reality tales, grim apocalyptic futures, I'd like to see it done with a little subtlety and finesse.

There needs to be buildup and logic to this kind of destruction. Let's see Not!Batman quietly telling the president that they'll simply destroy Washington DC wholesale if the US military takes any action against them, actually creating buildup and anticipation for the inevitable horrific payoff.

1 for bravery.
1 for being the idiot who charged a person who kicked over a bus.

Also, ignoring the knockoff DC Characters, we also seem to have knock-off Patrick Zircher artwork here.

This seems like something Garth Ennis would write. He loves portraying superheros as incompetent and/or evil.

I thought that The Boys was really problematic and repetitive of Ennis' work in a number of ways--I gave up about two thirds of the way through the series, and on his other work at about the same time--but at least he put some effort into it. This is Junior's First Superheroes-Gone-Bad Book, barely colored in.

You know, I picked up a couple of issues of the recent Robyn Hood ongoing by Pat Shand and it was all right. I was thinking that maybe Zenescope wasn't a dumpster full of soft-core pornography.

Then they canceled Shand's book, so now I'm thinking it might have been just that Shand isn't bad.
