It's a terrific quality in a hero.

It's a terrifying one in a villain.

This month's All-Star Batman demonstrates the latter case with someone promised a reward for killing Batman.

They're not one of the ones promised by Two-Face.



They- Anatoly Knyazev, the Beast- struck in last month's issue, knocking over the police van the hero and villain were riding in.

The KGBeast continued this month, through the still-alive cops from that van.



(That deliberateness of movement- so well-rendered.)



The knuckles didn't slow the Beast, nor did the gun-arm-disabling gunshots from Harvey.

What did was a car.



As Batman's trainee Duke took him and Two-Face away, the Beast rose.

Another group after Batman and Two-Face for the obscene payment the latter'd promised anyone who would free him from the former descended.

To be fair, it's just the Royal Flush Gang. There's been, like, ten of them.

Weirdly, it also appears to be the Royal Flush Gang from Batman Beyond, they were the only ones to use those designs, especially on the black/white split Ten.

Huh, I didn't realize that was the first time their designs have been used in the comics. Too bad, the screwed-up criminal family was the best version so far, followed by the one voiced by the Teen Titan actors.

I also liked the ciminal dynsasty idea (though I was less impressed when the Batman Beyond comic introduced ANOTHER Royal Flush gang because King and Queen both had identical twins who also married each other and had a daughter and... well, it just wasn't that good)

I do retain a soft spot for the version introduced in the JLA (King of the Road, Queen of the Broadway stage, a Gigolo Jack, and a Ten who was a 10, but more importantly a trained test pilot) and who then appeared some years later In the Teen Titans"

What are "slow-twitch" muscle fibers? And how does that machete possibly function as a missile launcher?

Broadly speaking, there are two types of muscle fibers. Slow twitch fibers don't deliver as energy as quickly, but also don't fatigue as quickly. Fast twitch muscle fibers are the opposite- they deliver quick bursts of energy, but will fatigue more quickly.

So, enhanced slow twitch muscle fibers wouldn't make KGBeast sprint faster, but they might let him run all of the marathons.

No comment on the machete/grenade launcher.

I've never really been impressed by KGBeast, or whatever you wanna call him, because it's always seemed like he's had stats in the place of characterization. He was like that when he was first introduced, stayed that way when he fought Robin before he became a chump, and is in place here.

I do think Batman should have a bad ass ala what's depicted here in his rogues gallery, but I don't think Beast should be it. At least until they can give him a take that's not 'Baddest bad ass bad assing it'.

I've always thought they should reboot KGBeast ala Winter Soldier. Brainwashed to perform operations and then return to his handlers.

That way he could keep his stats and be sympathetic/interesting
