The TV portrayal is an interesting take on the character, but I don't see why the comics need to go for the exact same take. I generally prefer originality.
I really don't see why the comics have to ape the TV series so much. Not because I don't like the TV series (although I admit that I have liked it less over time, and did not like the season 1 finale), but because I don't see why the comics can't do their own thing.
Which brings me to my second point: is there some reason that DC can't maintain an even somewhat consistent portrayal of Cat Grant for more than a couple of years at a time? Before the DCnU relaunch, they had decided to portray her as this horrible, shallow person who hated Supergirl for no reason. Then, after the DCnU relaunch, they went back to something like her original bubbly, sweet, in-love-with-Clark portrayal. Now they've gone with the show's harsh, driven, no-nonsense corporate titan portrayal. I get that they are changing a lot of characters around, first with DCnU and now with Rebirth, but they really seem to be just all over the map with Cat Grant. Why not just create new characters to fill these very different roles?
