"He's got this interesting combination of arrogance and the vulnerability that comes from being trapped. He's charming in a deliberately human, capitalist, rather stuffy way, but with these hippy frills to that, as if this incarnation has deliberately grabbed hold of any and all camouflage. I love it when we see underneath that. I hate it when he's rude to perfectly kind and decent people. All these contradictions. But I intend to explore that using only the tools available at the time." -- Paul Cornell

Cornell is so fond of the Delgado-era Master. I almost wish he'd do some kind of "The Five Masters" crossover involving the others up to Missy.

There would be a Pork Singularity. The sheer mass of ham would drag everything into it and it would be the end of all things.

An Aporkalypse, if you will.

We should *all* be so fond of the Delgado-era Master. He was a treasure.

I've always heard talk about this sort of thing. Usually how it would descend into a glorious mess of backstabbing, and that somehow the earliest Master (so I guess Delgado) would come out on top.

Back in the glorious days of the only continuing adventures being 8th-Doctor comic supplements in Doctor Who Magazine, there was a LoEG-inspired mini-feature in which a (Delgado-ish) Master finds himself in the realm of the 19th century's most fearsome villains.

After standing before the council of Mr. Hyde, Robur, Dr. Griffin et al., he eventually unmasks them all as creations of Prof. Moriarty; then, rather than be accepted as their new leader, uses Moriarty's own machine to simulate the tripods from "The War of the Worlds" and annihilates them all.

All rather fun.

I really wish Cornell was the showrunner...

-"Please don't use that ridiculous expression, Jo."-
Oh, if only, if only someone would tell Moffat this.

Possibly via the medium of a slap upside the head. While shouting.

I do like the idea it's a line from Jo though, it's very her.

There's a nice line in the recent audio adventure where the 5th Doctor meets the Weeping Angels for the first time and he's trying to explain the concept of the Angels timeling warping and he gets as far as "But actually, from a nonlinear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a... " pauses and then continues wistfully "....you know, some day I'll find a way to end that sentence..."

The Master using, presumably, leftover Nestene plastic for his disguises is fun, as is Jo basically having NO dark secrets.

Oh, it is very Jo.

And yet, he never really did.
So instead we're stuck with... that phrase.

-"Jo basically having NO dark secrets"-
Which is really kind of obvious in hindsight. And foresight.
She's not really the sort of person you could see having a dark secret.
(Though doubtless someone's tried at some point.)

Despite the Master showing up literally all the time, I love this era of Doctor Who. It was quite the reinvention, but it had a strong supporting cast and setting.
