Uh, I could be wrong, but I don't think he HAS lost the cowl there. It looks to me more like it's been drawn back like the hood of a cloak (which, after all, is what it IS; just more tight-fitting and with a face-covering aspect). Sorry.

Probably, but it's prettier, even if only for the cover. It's a step in the direction of changing Tim's costume for something a little less fugly, too.

I think as long as they're calling him 'Red Robin', he's going to wear at least some variation on that costume, because it's from Kingdom Come and designed by Alex Ross, and that makes it sacrosanct. If you want to change Tim's costume, you'll have to start by changing his secret identity. (Since he was Robin for all those years, I'd make it another bird-name. 'Cardinal'? 'Sparrow'? 'Bluejay'? 'Nuthatch'? Or perhaps something a tad more exotic - 'Oilbird'? 'Hoopoe'? 'Peacock'? 'Weaverbird'? As long as it isn't something 'hardcore' and 'Xtreme' like 'Butcherbird' or 'Screech Owl', I'll be fine with it.)
