It opened on the establishment of a threat.

It continued with Merlin seeking the present Doctor Strange's help.

He caught him slaying a monster in New York and took him aside.





(I'm not sure which translation I like more- younger Strange and Merlin looking at zodiac signs, or present Strange and Merlin walking around giant long-dead representations of themselves.)

It's not a bad team Merlin's put together, in addition to Strange- the future Billy Kaplan, the Ancient One of the past (and youth and arrogance), an Apache Ghost Rider, a rune-speaking Brazilian slinger of blades that're also guns, and Isaac Newton (with what appears to be an experimented-on Mindless One in tow).

Oh yeah, this comic. This comic dropped like a sack of potatoes, or more like Wile E. Coyote over a cliff, going from like #3 to #99 between October and November.

How often do you see that?

I just can't with this series. It's not good for my blood pressure. The first issue art (which I found terrible), the glib cool kids characterization of the sorcerers supreme from other eras including the Ancient One, the WTF-ness of Merlin having to flee through time to seek help against this not-very-impressive threat when he took point against Chthon's rising with only lesser present day sorcerers on hand to assist him.

The Empirikul didn't do something to Strange's command of magic, they did something to cut off the flow of magic through the world that affected every sorcerer. In the past his old spells should work exactly as they always did.
