I quite like the small character moments you can see in these scans. From Shocker's 'just business' approach (very inkepping with his character), to the Surgeon following his Hippocratic Oath, to Spidey rescuing the criminals he was fighting, it all seems to work for me.
One small question I had was isn't Herman Shultz black/non-white? My main knowledge of him as a character comes from Superior Foesof Spiderman, where he definitely was, but I don't know if that was a recent addition or what (maybe this is a new Shocker? Although they said Herman in the last issue)
This is my confusion, because in Superior Foes of Spiderman he isn't white (or I should at least deeply tanned), but most other appearances have him as white (although alternating between redhead and brown haired). It's not really a problem at all in either book it just made me confused. Although I think for most fully costumed supervillains (especially a (if we're being kind) B-lister like Shocker) there's no real consistency for their actual appearance. Heck, even Peter Parker is rendered by artists as 'youngish brown haired guy (occasionally with glasses)' with massive variations between them.
He was fighting another supervillain. He got burnt. The Black Lodge people showed up and thought he was another supervillain and took him in, and started patching him up before they realised who he was.
"Our benefactor." Hmm. Wondering who would have the impetus to set up a hospital for supervillains, but also demand that they follow (at least some twisted version of) the Hippocratic Oath.
