Off-Topic Tuesday!
Feb. 21st, 2017 11:45 amIn the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like. Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat amongst yourselves.
A heterosexual couple has lot their latest appeal to be allowed to obtain a civil partnership in the UK. (Civil partnerships being a precursor to gay marriage, a secular, legal recognition of same sex couples commitment to each other and granting certain rights more associated with marriage). The judges agreed there might be a breach of human rights in not permitting it to those straight couples who don't want to be married but want a legal relationship, but that will require more legal work.
The is House of Lords debating the Brexit situation, with PM Theresa May doing a very good impersonation of a vulture, sitting in and trying to intimidate them like a stern headmistress.
Former 70's hearthrob David Cassidy has announced that he is suffering from dementia
The FBI are investigating a have of threats against Jewish sites in the US. Though in the sort of reminder that decent human beings exist (Which we all need right now), commuters got together on a subway to remove anti-Semitic Nazi graffitti
And UK MP's have been debating Trump's planned State Visit to the UK following a petition signed by 1.8 million Brits who objected (and another petition in favour of him coming, which managed 311,000 signatures) , and it's amazing how insulting you can get whilst being terribly polite.

As for Trump, well, where does one begin on that one.... though his bumwaffling about a terrorist attack in Sweden, carried out by the perpetrators of the Bowling Green Massacre one assumes, is a classic.
The LEGO Dimensions Batman Movie level is fun. It keeps freezing on me whenever I try to build the bloody batcomputer, but the animations are great (and Robin making his way through ductwork is hilarious)
NASA have a major announcement tomorrow about a "Discovery beyond our Solar System". Personally at the moment, I think I'd settle for Galactus or Brainiac.

Date: 2017-02-21 12:27 pm (UTC)OMG it's amazing.
The way people had been praising it first and foremost as a tender and healthy romance, I had got the impression it was a nice but ultimately boring fluffy love story. I almost skipped it because of that.
(And I'm aware it comes across as fucked up that I associate "healthy and tender" as "boring." But guys, it's fiction. I don't care for smooth sailing in fiction. Even if I do most definitely want a happy ending, it's by far more entertaining if the characters go through hell to achieve it).
But it's actually hilarious, with genuinely moving drama, and with the biggest plot-twist in anime history (I watched the ending of episode 10 three days ago and I'm still internally screaming). It's really, REALLY good!
It's also very beautiful. The skating performances are all great. Every single competitor has his own dance and music.
And last but not least, THANK GOD the hot naked person is a 27-year-old man for once! PRAISE BE! As an anime fan I got so sick and tired of feeling like a goddamned pedophile because all the bishounen are 16-year-old kids. I’m so, so, SO happy we finally get an honest-to-God *ADULT* man :’)
I'm not sure if this is spoiling anything or not

Date: 2017-02-21 12:45 pm (UTC)They were okay with Milo when he was instigating rape against women, trans people and POC. But when he targets white boys, that crosses the line.
Because they never gave a damn about free speech. It was never about free speech. It's just that they agreed with him before, but don't agree with him now.

Date: 2017-02-21 12:33 pm (UTC)(Though I had to explain to the family member I saw it with that yes, Condiment King was a real character.)
Saw the Toyfair images about the new Transformers.
There's more than one dragon apparently.
Not sure about that. As far as beastie TFs go, dragons just aren't my thing.
(Now, squid, or crabs, or terrifying turtle / alligator fusions...)
Also, a Voyager-class version of Scorn. (Who, frankly, was probably the best figure from Age of Extinction's toyline.)
Not sure about it, really. The proportions look odd, and the robot mode chin is just Animated in its proportions... but it's Scorn. So conflicted.
And, a new Optimus Primal toy. Yay, I guess.
(Suppose it is something after Hasbro did dick-all to celebrate Beast War's 20th anniversary. ... now, if they got around to making a new Megatron, that'd be splendid, yeeesss...)
Been on a Batman: The Brave and The Bold kick lately.
Very silly, and enjoyable.
Except from when the Spectre shows up and turns people into cheese.

Date: 2017-02-21 01:02 pm (UTC)On the plus side, it does seem to have backfired and had the opposite effect though, galvanising some of the Lords into being more actively against Brexit (or at least interference from May) because they do NOT like being told what to do.
There's a fractional sliver of my internal optimist hoping that at some subtle level she's trying to derail the whole thing but still manage to make it not her fault.... Though in fairness, that sliver is the part of me that would probably be drowning itself in alcohol about now, if I actually ever drank alcohol.

Date: 2017-02-21 04:21 pm (UTC)Tex Mex Chicken with chiles and cheese
Hate the name, love the recipe. I use olive oil instead of butter and add two Serrano peppers and one poblano pepper to make it more flavorable.
Chili dog chili, or as I like to call it, the reverse chili dog
A pot luck favorite around my office (where I make it with turkey for the coworkers who don't eat red meat). As with the one above, I add three Serrano peppers and one poblano pepper.
EDIT: I've never made the accompanying cornbread, though
Nacho Mac and Cheese
No substitutions on this one, just make sure you don't use a sweet corn because it can overwhelm the dish pretty quickly. You can add a can of diced green chiles and swap some of the milk for sour cream
Gluten Free Pineapple Teriyaki Chili
Yeah, I make a lot of chilis, especially for office potlucks.

Date: 2017-02-24 03:59 am (UTC)I found that cooking frozen potatoes and ground beef in the same fry pan makes the potatoes taste awesome, and pads it all nicely. I threw in half a jar of salsa, mixed and cooked til it was warm, salted and peppered, and the result was super delicious. Easy but got eaten way too fast.

What can be bigger than light escaping a black Hole! Well I'll give the article a read thanks.
