So retconned then re-retconned.

Hm, did anyone use the team after this...? I know Middy and Apollo got play, but that's all I know.

Yea. Aside from aforementioned Midnighter and Apollo they might as well be gone already. Voodoo and Grifter both ended well before this point too, I believe.

It does make un-rebooting pretty pointless. It's like, on the one hand, Starlin wasn't good for recotting in the first place, but re-retconning just established 'this team is in continuity flux, you probably shouldn't touch,' in people's heads.

Though at least with this, the whole retcon of the first team was a plot point throughout the second team's brief tenure... but this seems like a pretty abrupt reversal nonetheless. Cancelled before Starlin could fully play out his storyline?

Probably. Or, who knows really? It might not have been planned so far.

If they were always planning on undoing it, it still was an odd choice, making the team hard to use with the rest of the universe and very stand-alone.

-"We can't have the Justice League and ARGUS showing up to botch this"-
This reminds me of a scene from Marvel's Infinity. In the midst of all the cosmic sturm und drang, Jerkass Jeff Bridges as Peter Quill's Space Dad starts going on about how much humans suck and are stupid and he hates them and the various aliens species don't need their help, and then the Supreme Intelligence just lists off Earth's success rate against the Kree versus the Spartax success rate against the Kree, and lo and behold, Earth's done better against the Kree than the Spartax.
Essentially, "shut the hell up before you embarrass yourself further".

Stormwatch keep going on about how much the Justice League apparently suck and are idiots, but... exactly why they seem to have this opinion is baffling, even more so since the Justice League seem to have a much better track record.
And, y'know, just makes Stormwatch and its members look childish.

... but, uh, hey. The awful idea of Engineer being turned evil and murdered and left lying around in pieces with no-one giving a toss has been undone.

Well they are Wildstorm characters and anti heroes, pettiness is hard wired into their genes its a common trait in Anti heroes.
