You know how its weird for Americans to talk with people who of age in a different era of politics? You pre vs post 9/11, Clinton era vs Bush era vs Obama era, etc, etc?
It has to be super bizarre in the Marvel universe for people of different villain eras to talk to each other. Namor a war hero or Terrorist. Magneto a mutant supremacist or teacher, Doom a N. Korea style crackpot or savior? It has to be really tough to relate.
I like everything about this. The dialogue, the art, the interaction between Doom and Nadia...excellent. Nadia seems like a really great character (I haven't read much with her, yet). Has she had a chance to interact with Kamala yet? That seems like it would be an energetic, awesome friendship. (Nadia's just a teenager, right? She looks really young)
In the first issue of her ongoing series. It went like: "Kamala geeks out over something popculture - Nadia doesn't react or goes O.o" and "Nadia geeks out over something sciencey - Kamala goes O.o". I think both Nadia and Kamala are established to be around 16. :)
"Did DOOM say he preferred chai, mortal? NAY. He merely requested it at this juncture. Do not be so foolish as to attempt to know the whims and feelings of one such as DOCTOR DOOM."
Oh man, I know he's supposed to be reformed now, but do we really think there's any chance of Doom *not* sacrificing the idealistic young science-lady who looks up to him? I just got so nervous for Nadia.
Well later in the issue there's a group of teenage girls that summon a demon, and Doom specifically holds back from blasting it for fear of hurting one of them.
And honestly, I'm really liking Iron Doom. Both here and in Infamous Iron Man it seems he has legitimately reformed. And not like magically altered reformed like Sabretooth, or had his mind altered by heroic memories like Otto Octavius, or just the same old guy but a hero now like Magneto. He seems to have actually realised he's been an asshole for so long now, and is honestly trying to be a better person. It's like Superior Spider-Man, but better because it's not based on the 'hero' murdering the previous holder of the title and taking over their life, as well as having the reformed villain actually recognise their flaws and try to better themselves.
I can understand why some people want Doom to just be the evil egomaniac he always was, but Infamous Iron Man is frankly one of my favourite Marvel books right now and will be very upset if this is all some kind of long con on Victor's part. I know he must eventually return to his old self because status quo is king, but seeing one of the Marvel Universe's worst people recognise that fact and try to change is just so interesting and I just want it to be real for now.
I love everything about Waid's Avengers (even if I find this line-up a little lackluster).
Though the "Nadia really doesn't like Spider-Man" thing is starting to wear a little thin. Pete needs to show off his SCIENCE skills and win her over already.

(Not looking particularly like herself in that last page...)
