I gotta disagree there. If Parker Industries gets removed what happens to Parker? He gets made a freelance photographer again? A school teacher? A sad sack lovable, barely solvent loser? God, no. Part of the reason why we got here was Joe Quesada undid Peter and MJ's marriage in the most ham fisted manner possible and put Parker right back to square one.
What no! I still want him to be a scientist but The Parker Industries stories were just a copy paste version of a silver Age Iron Man complete with supplying SHIElD tech.
Unfortunately a large majority of these so called indie writers and modern day industry writers have no real subtlety much less class when writing struggling financial characters. The problem with these new writers is that they take Spider-man for granted thinking he's easier to write than Batman or Superman when in reality it takes a certain quality and care to write a good Spider-man run.
Because of this I have retreated to RYV Gerry knows the game whether it's a married or otherwise single Spider-man he gets the character and his theme.
I don't even get why everyone hates on Parker Industries. After One More Day, everyone was furious that they devolved Peter in to a no-responsibility loser.
"Why can't we have Peter grow?" "Why is everything the same?"
So here we are, years later, and they've evolved Peter into a new direction that's great, opens all sorts of doors, and now people are like "Ugh, Parker industries in the worst."
This is why we have OMD, because people can't accept change.
People did seem to prefer when he was a Scientist at Horizon and when he was a Science teacher, both things he really did enjoy doing. He always had a passion for science after all.
Well, there's "Peter loves science" and "Peter is a top-notch inventor (see the spider-gear he invented from junk in Aunt May's attic)." It is just hard to see "Peter Parker: Captain of Industry."
A lot of people here and elsewhere hate Slott on principle. Granted I gave him a lot of crap in the day but then I realized that most of what I gave him crap for was Quesada-enforced and that he's done his part to work around it. Like the only reason why the 'Renew Your Vows' series exists (which people here love) is because he went out of his way to do a AU miniseries with the Spider-Marriage intact. That was entirely his decision.
Personally I'm not opposed to Peter running his own company I just hated the way it was done.
1. It spun out of superior spiderman a story line I absolutely loathe so that was the first strike against it.
2. We didn't actually see any of it getting built we jumped straight to Peter is a billionaire dusting off the old Ironman schtick of his super hero alter ego is his body guard.
3. Parker Industries was too successful I really don't care about fictional good guy versions of massive companies since in the real world such corporations are hardly ever built without stepping on a shit ton of people and crossing plenty of moral lines.
I mean Peter starting his own tech company and struggling to balance building it with his spiderman gig. That could have been a good thing but instead we didn't really see any of that instead a monster wearing him a like skin suit founded the company, he inherited it when he got his life back and then a time skip made it so successful that Tony freaking Stark was struggling to compete with it in the tech field.
Personally I don't like how irresponsible Peter was when juggling his responsibilities to Parker Industries and his crime fighting.
He kept putting off doing important things for the company like attending meetings, press conferences, reading reports or finishing projects because he was too busy stopping purse snatchers. And I get that that's important to him because of the Uncle Ben of it all. But he has a duty to his stock holders and investors and employees to actually do the job they expect him to do, the job he promised to do.
If it wasn't for Ock in Living Brain manipulating stock prices then the company would have gone bankrupt due to his superhero antics. He would be broke, his aunt and her husband would be broke because they sunk all their money into him, his employees would be unemployed.
There's just something so negligent and irresponsible about how he treats this job that rubs me the wrong way.
I dug it. That was probably my favorite thing they did since OMD. Still has OMD's stink on it, of course, but at least it wasn't mired in the status quo of 50 years ago like OMD initially set us on.
Personally I feel that audience identification is a core element of Spider-Man, that Peter Parker is a normal person with normal problems makes him easier to relate to. As a rule, I don't find CEO's of massive corporations particularly relatable.
For me, the problem is less the concept and more the execution. First, it was Otto who came up with it back when he'd stolen Peter's life. Peter was just stuck with it afterwards. But there was still story potential there, with Peter trying to balance costumed life and the difficulties of running his company.
Then there was a super-villain attack, a lot of the business was broken... and we had the Secret Wars timeskip, and all of a sudden, Parker Industries was a world-wide super company, with Peter acting as a slightly dorkier silver age Iron Man. I was more interested in what we missed. Then it was revealed it was all Zodiac and Doc Ocks manipulations (STOCK MARKET DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY), and Peter was just the clueless patsy along for the ride.
I wanted to see Peter struggle, occasionally trip up, but climb back up and keep going. This is him getting handed a shiny thing by the bad guys and then they take it away again.
Also, can we have one of Otto's 'I'm so great, I'm amazing' speeches get shut down hard already? After the past few years, I'm really sick of his stupidity being presented as 'genius'.
Honestly, I've always had trouble seeing how Norman correlates to Peter in any jungian sense. Besides him being his best friend's dad and bumping off his girlfriend, there's not much to tie him to being his archetypal nemesis.
I wish one of these days writers realized that villains lying about heroes isn't the most effective tactic because heroes can reach the public just as easily as the villains if they had half a brain.
Ock: I've framed you for the worse crime ever!
Peter: Well, after I beat you, Shield's investigation will clear me. Woo!
Granted, it wouldn't be perfect, but hardly the death blow this makes Ock's move seem

Venom (as in, classical, evil, monstrous Venom) is Peter's yang in terms of powers and abilities.
Doc Ock is Peter's Yang in terms of intelligence and talent in science.
