Date: 2017-07-17 04:45 am (UTC)2. They completely changed the setting and a bunch of the characters so it's less a direct adaptation and more a 'loosely based on' thing, like when they recast Romeo and Juliet with lawn gnomes.
It's like how people were mad about Scarlett Johansson playing the titular Ghost in the Shell, but no one particularly cared that Tom Cruise was the star of Edge of Tomorrow/Live Die Repeat.
