"In some ways, I'm kinda glad I didn't get to do [my Captain Marvel idea]. GENERATIONS addressed, at least in part, some of the negative aspects of being superheroes, and I planned to continue that with Captain Marvel. My intent was to have middle-aged Billy Batson spending more and more time as Cap -- who was now YOUNGER than Billy -- and in so doing neglecting his wife and teenaged kids. If you grimace reading that, it's quite okay. I sorta do myself!" - John Byrne

Well, yeah, given that the basic idea was already done by Alan Moore in Miracelman, yeah, it's probably best you didn't do that, John.

I can see why B.J. chose to go with Kara, and his mother go when her time came. Immortality ain't all it's cracked up to be, Bruce.

That's funny because I was going to post just the opposite. If the Lazarus Pita now has no side effects, I don't understand why anyone would be adverse to using it. Or why the Waynes aren't sharing this fountain of youth with more if the world.

Who would want to live forever? Remember, boredom is the enemy of immortality! :)

That seems like something people should be able to decide!

And they did. B.J. and his mom chose not to be immortal (or at least B.J. did).

This series came out in 2003. Why did Byrne portray 2008 like some far off sci-fi future with stuff like the utility belt being able to handle all the Batcave's functions and Britain as a dystopic wasteland? It'd be like if a writer today depicted 2022 that way.

2008 in a timeline where mad scientists and superheroes have been around inventing goodness knows what for seventy odd years.

Technology probably would look a little different after that.
