I must say, I do like that Phillipus, traditionally one of the more warrior-like amazons, is the one arguing there is nothing wrong with Diana playing with a doll.

I think we need more of Phillipus being Diana's second-mom. One of the cool bits of Odyssey was Phillipus being her mentor (while wearing an eyepatch!).

Given Diana will have to do something similar to Steve Trevor someday, just with a metaphorical lock and thrown away key, this makes sense.

Still, isn't "I must do emotionally damaging things to myself to prove how tough I am" more Batman's thing?

I can't remember the last time I was a child... dad lost his job when I was young... before high school... started working when I was sophomore or junior.... put myself through school (getting my MASTERS in English in a year!) had to take care of my dad while he had cancer. take care of the funeral. now taking care of my high anxiety/blood pressure sensitive mother.... and teach freshman level college writing....

Hm, I know people can be aware of their faults, but would Hippolyta of all people worry about not toughening Diana up enough? It seems to me like her consistent character flaw is being way too overprotective of her.

Gah, adults! Diana would put aside her doll when she grew older. Nothing wrong with having a doll now. Children mature at their own pace, not at the pace their parents think they should!

I know none of the Amazons besides Hippolyta have had children since their exile to Themiscyra, but have the myths regarding their time on the mainland and relations with the Gargareans been overturned in this continuity? It seems weird to posit that none of them have ever been mothers.

traditionally, DC Amazons did not have childrens (with the exception of Hippolyta... obvs...) and don't age.
Rucka also erased Azzarello's... mess with the amazons and restored the "the amazons were created by the gods" origin with the addition of making them live in a different dimension mortals can't normally cross.
