Three scans from War of Kings #6 (four pages).

So last issue ended with Emperor Vulcan arriving to stop Black Bolt from using the Terrigen Bomb from mutating the entire galaxy (in the name of peace).  A big ensues in this issue.

Whose vaguely-defined energy powers will prevail?

I love how the word is integrated into the shockwave there.

Crystal shows up with Lockjaw and convinces Black Bolt to leave with her without trying to use the Terrigen device; however, their exist is interrupted...

'Cause that worked so well the first time.

This time around, Black Bolt's scream blows up the device and tears a giant, parsecs-wide hole in the fabric of space-time.  The fates of both Black Bolt and Vulcan are unknown.

I wonder... does anyone out there actually like Vulcan? I mean, finding him an interesting character and villain or whatever?

"super-Caligula thing"

Super-Crazy-Caligula even. He works for me as a completly batshit-crazy emperor, I don't know why. I don't like *him* per se though, you could easily replace him with an enraged ultra-powerful muppet and I'd be just as happy.

Great, now I'm imagining Rygel being the leader of the Shiar Empire.

It totally works. Try it - run through the War of Kings with Black Bolt versus Rygel.

Well, given he was created just to "reveal" the third Summers Brother...

Yet, his pathological loathing of so many different people is interesting.

Which was SUPPOSED to be Adam-X...

Somewhere Fabian Nicieza is headdesking. Repeatedly.

I'd take a Walking 90's Cliche over Generic Uber-powerful Retconned Creator-wank any day.

I'd still like to see Adam X turn out to be a Summers brother. And Gambit. Couple other people too. Some not even mutants.

The only time I've liked Vulcan was in a fan comic when he was getting drunk in a bar with Superboy-Prime. (The basic idea of the series was pairing up similar JLA and X-men types and having them hang out at a bar.)

Granted, I've read maybe four issues with him in it.

I got a Bill & Ted vibe from that fan comic. All they need is some air guitar...

I fail to see how manipulating energy relates to rebuilding himself. I mean I can see surviving because he was able to lessen the blast force somehow. That makes more sense to me.

Matter and energy are essentially the same thing in different states. Absolute control over energy would grant the ability to utilise energy to rebuild yourself.

I figure unless he's a psionic if his body gets totally destroyed then he should be dead. No brain to control the rebuilding.

He doesn't look too "rebuilt" there, frankly. He's kinda nuts.

According to wikipedia (which is of course always completely true, he's used his powers to heal himself and others before, even before he jumped on the train to Coocooville. Considering he's been basically a walking pillar of energy this entire arc, it seems quite likely.

I don't get how anybody can think they have defeated Black Bolt when they haven't destroyed his throat.

"tears a giant, parsecs-wide hole in the fabric of space-time."

......and hear I was hoping the GotG would catch a break.

Poor, poor Peter Quill.

Vulcan's a dick, Black Bolt and the Inhumans are fastly becoming dicks. Can't they both lose?

For some reason I imagined he was yawning in that last panel.
