You know, I think that kid might end up the bad guy.

A group of idealistic people and up getting powerful and gaining the ability to make the world a better place, and -one- of them ends up being a sight less idealistic and moral than the rest, causing them to fight each other and squander the opportunity to affect positive change, restoring the status quo (or near enough to).

Because all power corrupts everyone, and nothing changes.

You know, I appreciate that the world is a shitty place, but I'm kind of over being told stories about how -irrevocably- shitty it is. Positive change comes all the time. It is too slow by far and comes too late for too many, but things get better, generation by generation. It only comes because people fight for it tooth and nail, and grim, hope-smashing narratives like this that suggest that trying to help is futile and naive don't do anything to help.

The whole deconstruction of superheroes from pollyanna-ish figures of hope to realistic fascists was legitimately interesting when it started in the late 90's and for a good many years after that, but I think the point is made. What is new about this story aside from their getting superpowers from UNIX?

Sorry if I'm being a crab-ass, but this had my interest until the face/heel turn of this kid made the story SS-DD.
