What with a TV series upcoming, the idea to re-launch the New Mutants, even only as a miniseries, seems rather an obvious one, though a welcome one too.

In New Mutants: Dead Souls, former New Mutants Karma will bring together Magik, Wolfsbane, Strong Guy, Boom Boom, and Rictor to combat a supernatural threat, but Karma may be hiding a dark secret. Each issue will focus on a different member of the new team.
Well, it'll be nice to see Wolfsbane out in the main MU for a change, though it will have to address why she's back when she had a decent retirement in PAD's X-Factor, and what the deal was with her bizarre secondary mutation when she showed up in X-Men... whichever colour it as a few months back (She now has the power to turn into some sort of wolf pack, rather than "just" be a werewolf) and also how she feels about serving on the same team as Strong Guy, who was responsible for the death of her child.
I'm REALLY hoping we're not going to see Karma go evil!
It has been hinted by writer Matthew Rosenberg that the absence of the one other member of the team with supernatural connections, Dani Moonstar, she of the Hela granted Valkyrie abilities, is possibly for a reason. (I won't even comment on the possible inclusion of the New Mutant who spent the longest time dead out of all of them as a possible team-member, but that seems less likely)

Date: 2017-12-04 06:30 pm (UTC)Jimmy Hudson has a drug called Mothervine in his system that was given to fetuses in utero in order to ensure they would be mutants. Once he was on 616 Miss Sinister captured Hudson and started studying Mothervine, and learned how to give mutants a secondary mutatIon with it.
If it really bothers people that much just keep in mind that this isn't even the first time Toad's gotten a secondary mutatIon. He could control minds with the poison his tongue secretes, he could talk to actual toads like Falcon talks to birds, he had increased lung capacity for a super breath. All of those secondary mutations got ignored by later writers, if Rahne's "turn into a wolfpack" power isn't well received then you could easily say that the Mothervine effects were temporary
