Every time I think maybe Pietro's going to be less of an ass...
Love Jan calling him out. Too bad she didn't point out that sheer time on the time speaking, he's nowhere near in the lead, given how much of it he spent on the Moon, or as a villain, or elsewhere. Hell, Wanda's been a member far more often and longer then him.
Pietro is an ass. Usually, however, he is a remorseless ass who feels entirely justified in his ass-itude.
Here, however, his assery is clearly a defense mechanism. He wants to see Synapse to apologize. He is frustrated that he cannot, so he resorts to his default setting: a tremendous ass. When this does not work for him, and even Wanda calls him out, he flees. Not with a haughty curse over his shoulder, but with tears in his eyes.
This is a considerably more nuanced Pietro than we have seen in a while.
Part of responsibility for Psynapse's injury should probably go towards Jericho who summoned the Juggernaut with his carelessness. Summoning the servants of Cyttorak to do yardwork is monumentally stupid, ignorance is not an excuse and should not be acceptable from someone who was once Sorcerer Supreme.
Of course most of the responsibility should go to the Juggernaut himself
My impression is that Jericho's tenure as Sorcerer Supreme and subsequent death may have been retconned out of existence post-Secret Wars. Daniel (whose soul appeared to be destroyed at the end of Bendis' New Avengers run) was back earlier in Uncanny Avengers with their relationship reset to default before doing another heel turn.
(And Strange has hit bottom and lost the title yet again, because apparently every team that gets assigned to him thinks that's a fresh, original story arc to pursue.)
Daniel Drumm was brought back alongside Jericho in Axis by Doctor Doom They used Daniel to possess Wanda and reverse the Inversion spell, which is when both brothers joined the Unity Team. That all occurred before Secret Wars, so if his tenure has been retconned it probably doesn't have anything to do with the multiversal collapse specifically
I know it's not really the point of the scan, but since when can Quicksilver (or anyone) just speed-blitz Juggernaut and pull off his helmet? It's supposed to be practically impossible to remove. And the only thing it gets us here is two wrongs making a right, because the "second helmet under the big helmet" is really dumb.
It would work much better and serve the purposes of the story just as well for Pietro to overconfidently try to remove the helmet, find out too late that he can't, and Synapse gets smashed because Pietro set her up to fail with an unworkable plan.
You could even use it as a point in the discussion about pride and seniority afterwards -Quicksilver has fought the Juggernaut before, he should have known that would never work but he thinks he can do anything.
Yup, Cain has had two helmets for a good long while. Which actually helps get to your last point: Pietro should have known that. (Not Emily though, because she's new.)
I honestly did not know he had that. I would figure a lot of people wouldn't know he had a secondary helmet.
Which, you know, seems like a pretty obvious thing for him to have. I mean Magneto's Helmet protects him from psychic powers (Well, it did in the movies, and I don't see why they wouldn't integrate that into the comic moving forward), so it would make sense that Cain would get himself something like that for when this happens.
Well. They remembered the second helmet, but other than that... characterization is really backsliding.
Wasn't Rogue and Cain X-Men together for some time ? And poor Pietro... he has been reverted all the way to his early Avengers days. Really, much as trying to remove the Magneto parentage has impacted Magnetos characterization, it seems to have done worse to Pietro.
Is it just me, or is it out-of-character to see Cain gleefully crippling a girl with no physical powers? He's always had anger issues-- they're more or less the root of his villainy-- so I can see him doing this while enraged. But happy?
I had thought Synapse’s power was more biochemical than psionic, manipulating actual brain impulses rather than telepath type stuff; guess I misinterpreted.
I thìnk you're right but I guess the Juggernaut's helmet still shields his brain from such manipulation
She's using her brain to send out electrical impulses to other brains, which is essentially what telepaths and other psionics do. She just bypasses thoughts/feelings/memories and goes straight to manipulating neurons and nerves
