Guitez, who has control of the corrupt police, is tired of Maria's father, the town judge who fears what Guitez might to do his daughter after his wife was killed, objections to Guitez's flaunting his power. When Maria's father finally threatens to report Guitez to the governor, Guitez kills him right in front of Maria.
Guitez shoots Steve, causing him to drop the rune. An evil spirit is released, allowing Maria to escape.
Maria transforms into a flying sun goddess, allowing her to carry Steve Trevor away from the excavation site, before transforming back to normal.
A fully monsterized Guitez crash lands his private plane in Los Angeles, witnessed by Mike Willard, writer/editor of the National Exposer. He also witnesses the transformed Maria arrive to battle Guitez.
Maria uses her staff to destroy Guitez before collapsing from exhaustion in front of the Hollywood sign.
