I really hated this era of Iron Man, from Warren Ellis introducing Extremis and giving Stark super powers to Tony being turned into a massive tool, to him wiping out five years worth of memories and everybody pretty much forgiving him for all the nasty stuff he had done. The man slept with She Hulk after he sent her cousin into space and when she found out injected her with nanites against her will and shut down her powers. It's just weird how in later interactions between the two I don't think any of that is ever brought up.
Anyway, Ellis just doesn't get why Iron Man is so cool. Yeah, he's "just a guy in a suit" which is what makes him so awesome.
I dunno, weren't his superpowers really just a technicallity? He was a cyborg, yeah, but that just meant he was faster in his suit and could put it on quickly. I think he had a connection to internet and satellites and stuff, but he had that when he put on a suit too. And he did present it as like in-universe upgrade, like a logical conclusion of Tony keep making better and more advanced suit. I get why it upsets people, but I don't think it's like making him DC's Cyborg or something.
