One thing about Shuklie is that they lampshaded The Most Common Superpower with her by officially declaring that she had the largest bosom on MU Earth during Byrne's run. Her combination of muscular athleticism and hyper femininity (curves, hair) are a staple element of the character. This would be like drawing Power Girl with a modestly sized chest.
Don't get me wrong: I don't demand that superheroes be chesty sex objects, but that part of her physicality is a significant (I hesitate to say "important") part of She-Hulk's character.
Consider: Jubilee spent years as one of the few small chested heroines, to the point where she would comment on it derisively. Then, after being depowered, she was drawn with quite a large chest indeed. It was a significant character point, but it got ignored.
Frankly, I think the problem here with the art outside of wonky foreshortening and such is that She-Hulk REALLY lacks muscle definition. She got the abs, but damn those legs and arms are skinny in a lot of those panels.
Grey Shulk has weird upper arms, muscular forearms, and tiny hands.
Green Shulk has -kind of- athletic biceps (think aerobic fitness as opposed to bodybuilder) and decidedly slender and unmuscled forearms ending in -giant- hands.
And the legs... hotchie-motchie, the legs! Could you at least make them -match?-
It was already incongruent when they made the series less psychological and made her appearance prettier due to fanboy whining, but kept the grey look anyway. They should have greened her back as soon as they decided to change the tone.
On the other hand it makes every sense that she would revert only after the mourning process reached some resolution. I bet this is what they had planned from the beginning, and the early tone-change was forced into their hands by bad audiences (just like the amazingly expressionist art experiment was forced back into boring realism by bad audiences) . This is why we can't have nice things.
The majority thinks modern art is "just a bunch of squiggles, even my nephew could do that". The majority prefers movies that win Oscars to films that win Cannes. The majority buys megaevents and reboots more than good plots, and doesn't buy indie or foreign comics. The majority votes with their dollars for female superheroes who wear swimsuits to battles and strike S-poses to the camera.
The majority is exactly the reason why we can't have nice things. Well—half the reason; the other half being the studios who not only cater, but actively lead the majority towards its tendencies. Given Marvel/DC's history, I'm actually frankly amazed that Marvel even had this experimental phase in the 2010s, where quite a lot of their (non-flagship) titles played with expressionism and impressionism and pop and all sorts of interesting non-realism. Often the art was more fascinating than the plot or the characters. I'm curious to know who decided this, because I'm grateful to them...
Marvel's affair with actually interesting art was bound to die by the hands of the conservative fanboys sooner or later, so I suppose I should be happy that it even happened. I don't think it's a coincidence that the pushback came along with the anti-""""""""SJW"""""""" capitulation.
Well that was surprisingly easy and quick. One session and you're all good to go. See people who suffer from PTSD, one therapy session is all you need! This just feels soooo rushed.
Also, boooooooooooooooooooooo. Away with that stupid as hell idea that Bruce wanted to commit suicide that Bendis made up that went against what Pak established. Just no.
I'm going to be so happy when this mediocre, awkwardly written thing is over. Wanted to be so much more, but just couldn't outside of a few moments.
