We find out the shooting that's caused Supergirl's powers to go berserk, was caused by Emerald Empress leading her Fatal Five: Selena, Solomon Grundy (a clone), Indigo, and Magog. After a tough day at school with super hearing causing a a super headache, and a hole in the floor she visits her father at the DEO.

Got to say, this is a breath of fresh air after Super-Torso.

Reflecting this after revisiting the Loeb stuff, especially considering the worse is still to come there, something that has helped the character post-Rebirth is that DC feels more comfortable in who Supergirl is within the DCU.

What I mean by that is that looking at Loeb's stuff, it is evident that they wanted Supergirl to be in the next step very slightly below the Trinity in the hierarchy and how she should be featured. In addition they added is she dark or not theme, which was always really dumb because it was clear she was never going to go dark. So I think that became a burden with the following writers and there was this constant effor to find a way to break Kara through.

However, I now I think the writers are more settled in where Kara is within the audiences and are just more comfortable in telling stories there instead of trying to find that big moment. I hope that makes sense, but I do also feel it has helped the Supergirl comic a lot.

Yeah that makes sense... though I feel they hit that stride right before New Krypton.

I have to admit, even though the scans are from two issues, the change in art style coinciding with Super Girl getting shot threw me off and made me think I was looking at a stylistic art shift for a good minute. Then again, I haven't had my morning coffee yet.

Yeah, took advantage of them repeating the scene to play with page limits, but I also thought the effect was kinda cool.
