DRAGON BALL SUPER: Meet Caulifla!!! (plus Kale)

Universe 6, as the ‘twin’ to Universe 7 (where Goku and friends live), shares many similarities to that Universe while also having somewhat small (but significant) deviations - for example, the Saiyans are not only still alive, but are a benevolent mercenary race, acting as an intergalactic peacekeeping force (think something like the MCU’s Nova Corps). ‘tis here where we are introduced to Caulifla, a roguish Robin Hood-type delinquent and the first official female Super Saiyan in the franchise!... in the anime, that is. Her first transformation happens offscreen in the manga. Still, said introduction is exciting nonetheless.

LAST TIME ON DRAGON BALL SUPER...


There are exactly 12 unique Universes that exist within the Dragon Ball multiverse, all overseen and ruled by the wise and just King(s) of Everything. Unfortunately, he’s decided that most of them don’t meet his standards of quality, and has decided to host a large battle royale (dubbed the Tournament of Power) to see which of the Universes he plans to eliminate deserve to survive. The Gods of Destruction are given 48 hours to recruit ten different warriors from their respective Universes. Participation is mandatory. The losers are eradicated from existence, while the winner gets a full set of Super Dragon Balls.

Champa, Beerus’ brother and God of Destruction for Universe 6, enlists the aid of a Saiyan captain named Cabbe to help recruit fighters for the Tournament.

Man, the manga really knocked this introduction out of the park compared to the Anime. The implication that base form Kale is faster than Super Sayian Cabbe can even detect is crazy cool.

Cabba mentions that the evolved past the need for them. The real question is, why do they all look malnourished compared to Uni 7?

Back in the ‘Universe 6’ arc, Vegeta and Cabbe had a conversation about the Saiyans of their respective Universes and Cabbe mentions that their race had evolved beyond the need for tails (and, presumably, their Great Ape forms). Vegeta’s also the person who taught Cabbe to go Super Saiyan.

Same. It used to be an interesting "brand" trait, and it's a pity it has been completely phased out.

Yeah, that and the Great Ape transformations.... Universe 6 could have been a nice throwback to the early Saiyans Toriyama created.

I think Saiyans are just named after foods in general.

While i like that her gang is a girl gang here, i also liked that her gang in the anime looked like a bunch of Greeser's from the 50's.

Yeah, but the point was that Universe 6 Saiyans evolved past tails. Cabba was confused when Vegeta asked where his tail was.

Vegetables, just like universe 7's Saiyans. Goku's Saiyan name is a play on carrots for example and Broly is a play on broccoli.

I heard it was because Toriyama grew tired of drawing tails. It's evidently why Raditz, Nappa and Vegeta had their tails wrapped around their torsos.

I did like that Anime Kale had some Banner/Hulk influence though.

Renso was pretty muscular and looked like U7's Saiyans usually do.

Please, they're upper midcard or straight mid card. If you're going to throw around wrestling terms, use the right ones.

Jobbers would apply to the Universe 9 and 10 years teams. They were the Zack Ryders/Heath Slaters of this tournament.

Caulifla and Kale were the ones that eliminated most of Universes 11's team. In fact, after Universes 7, Universe 6 had the most eliminations.

I was thinking "that's so bizarre... a monkey tail is no more annoying to draw than long hair!"

And then I realized that all the characters in DB have short hair, and those who start out with long hair eventually either cut it short or wear it in a tight bun. Except for Lunch (who disappears), 17 and 18 (who have fairly short hair anyway).

Damn, Toriyama, that's cheap.

Yea the word Saiya as in "Saiyajin" is an anagram of yasai. Yasai in Japanese is vegetable

Toriyamas forgot to draw the tails so he pretty much came up with the half baked idea that no tails = more evolved

Sorry, I knew it was wrong when I posted it. So what do you call 2 badly written characters with convenient powers that rival the main characters of the series? I haven't watched wrestling since I was 7, so I wouldn't know.

You're not familiar with it seems Dragon Ball i take it or Shonen in general maybe.

Because you basically described everyone that has ever been a challenge to a Shonen protagonist(No matter how strong they get).

Funny how it's suddenly a problem when a female character does it.
