From Silver Surfer to Cosmic Carnage!

With rumours circulating that the Silver Surfer may appear in the upcoming Infinity War movie, I thought I'd share one of my favourite Surfer moments from the comics. Cletus Kassady has escaped prison thanks to managerial incompetence (I'm not even kidding.) and Spidey and the Surfer team up to take down the monster. But, at the sight of the Silver Surfer, the Symbiote bolts in terror, leaving both the heroes to wonder just what the Hell is going on...

This was one of my first Spider-Man comics. I have really fond memories of it.

I know I've read or seen this one. I think the next issue leads to one of my favorite all time moments in comics, but I'm not 100% sure I'm remembering correctly. Is this during the "Heroes Reborn" era when the Avengers & FF are considered dead?

I believe it is! Though, at the time of this issue they've just reappeared and Spider-Man is understandably pretty happy to have them all back.

Ah, back when a Marvel character getting their own symbiote was a big deal, and not, you know, a Thursday.

didn't they retcon the symbiote race as being all honorable ans such, and it was just Venom (to a lesser degree) and Carnage (to not a lesser degree) who were basically insane with the wanting death and destruction?

Yeah, but this is waaaaay before that.

They reveal this in the next part, but IIRC Surfer saw destroying the World overrun by the symbiotes as a mercy killing, since the world had been ravaged by the Symbiotes.
