According to a subsequent statement from Marvel, more details on Extermination will be revealed at this weekend's upcoming C2E2 convention, which takes place in Chicago from April 5-8.

The announcement will happen during Marvel's True Believer panel, which is scheduled for 12:15-1:15pm CT on Sunday April 8.

Oh my god! and since it was revealed they aren't ACTUALLY the O5 from the past but from an alternate universe or something THIS MEANS THAT TAGLINE DOESN'T MAKE SENSE.......... Okay, I fully admit I don't follow the X-books and I just have passing knowledge about them discovering they weren't from the past... or maybe this are the actual ACTUAL past version of the O5... but I don't particularly care so........

It was actually revealed in Blue that they are the real 05.

They are from the past of 616. They tried to go back to their own time but there was already another O5 there so for a while they thought they weren't meant to be in the past anymore and "time had fixed itself".

But it was a misunderstanding and it was really supervillains from the future, pretending to be them, taking advantage of the void they left to manipulate the course of history in their favor.

Welcome to Marvel. They had a perfectly good excuse to explain them away with Secret Wars, too. "When the universe re-wrote itself it fixed your absence. You both left your timeline... and didn't."

Perfect fix, it establishes them as real people but different from their older counterparts, boom.

So of course they screwed that up with the whole villain time travel thing.

Oh. I am not surprised by Marvel making such bad decisions that you have to suspect there is a "springtime for hitler" scam going on behind the scenes. I am picturing five villains looking at this plan and going "YES! THIS IS A BRILLIANT PLAN!"

Making them separate alternate universe versions of the O5 might make them into their own characters, but a lot of people don't want secondary versions of the O5 to stick around permanently. Especially now that adult Jean is finally back.

I'll be sad to see them go if this is the end of them. Young!Scott was great. Because for me, he matched the way Scott always should be in my head. He was like Cyclops freed of all the truly terrible writing and editorial decisions since, oh, Jean came back the first time.

While I think it is good that they are finally addressing the situation with the O5, I'm also hesitant about them finally sending them back. The current situation is just starting to become such a narrative nightmare.
