I don't know, guy committed suicide by archer, then got raised/zombified twice, then came back from the dead for reals. I can see why things would seem utterly hopeless to him. (Though I also think it's possible he was literally resurrected by the Challenger rather than being unkillable—we got confirmation that he did raise the various Black Order members from the dead in the latest issue.)
