The thread I’m working on with Luke is, “Yeah, a lot of people died for me.” If you look at interesting character development that would have happened between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, that’s certainly there. You don’t see much of it by the time you get to Empire, that stuff the characters must have faced and come to an answer — at least a temporary answer, anyway. -- Kieron Gillen

Plus I like them not dragging out an "Is it Bail? Could it be?" plot longer than two panels.

Date: 2018-04-07 03:53 am (UTC)I like Larroca's design sense. When he's designing original characters or spaceships he's at his best. He nails the Star Wars look while still making original designs. But the "let's make it look like you're watching the movie" widescreen aesthetic doesn't work as well here as it did in Vader. Maybe it's because Star Wars is an ensemble piece, so you have to show multiple characters and actions per panel forcing you to crop too much and kill the gesture/silhouette. There was a page of Luke killing an army of Stormtroopers that should've looked super dramatic but didn't work because you could hardly tell what Luke was doing.
And everybody already talked about the faces so I'm not belaboring that point.
